Kinda yeah. It was mentioned that they have a sort of scholar academy on Dragonstone on the first chapter as well as a courier service that took over the ravens. More details will be elaborated in coming chapters. Stay tuned!

Zenokya

Don’t know if you mentioned but does Aegon have the equivalent of Maesters in is empire ? Should not rely on the citadel.

Tertius711

Incentives sure but idk about the means nor even the feasibility. The amount of digging, dredging, and lack of water could all complicate the project. It's definitely not high on their list of priorities tbch.

NJ

What will make Harroway even more significant here is The Targs in your story actually have the means and incentives to build (the oh so desired in Riverlands are unified in fanfic lore lol) massive canal that connects the Blue Fork to Seagard as well too now that they have conquered the Westerlands and the Iron Isles. It will connect the heartlands of their kingdoms and or otherwise their people will have to go past the soon to be hostile Stormlands, Dorne, Reach etc to go around to now travel to the western and eastern coasts of their kingdom by ship and when they fully conquer Westeros that canal will further entrench The Riverlands as the heart beat of their empire

Tertius711

Harroway will likely expand to the point where the Red Fork links up to the Trident (with the Green and Blue Fork converging a little upstream). It's very nearby on the map. Harroway is possibly even on that point depending on the maps you use. The Green and Blue Fork convergence is too far to be expanded into before a modern metropolitan area arises though IMO though perhaps some lesser cities may arise there. And yeah Harroway's proximity to Summerhall and its command over the Trident will make it thrive. Whole reason the Targaryens wanted it. That combined with Saltpans, Maidenpool, and Darry give the Targaryens dominance over the Trident region and the Bay of Crabs. Lannisport, Dragonport, and who knows what more cities and towns the Targaryens will claim will increase their power ever more. Huge cities empower the Crown after all. Lannisport won't be renamed though, same as the Lannisters didn't rename Casterly Rock. Unnecessary.

NJ

Ahh I see, just massively expand it to go to the two points (or one of the 2) of in where 2 of the 3 forks converge as opposed to building a new city? The Targs will have so many huge cities, in their direct-direct(all of the cities and lands are theirs) holdings in Summerhall, Lannisport(I imagine they will be renaming that) Dragonport, Maidenpool and Harroway, hell even Saltpans

Tertius711

Harroway is the intended 'confluence' city since it's already an established town and commands the land after the point where the rivers converge since the three forks don't converge at the same point anyway.

NJ

Going to your map, should not the confluences of the forks of the Trident be in the Crown's direct provinces as well for when they inevitably (if they have not already) start building another huge city next to Harroway's town where the the forks of the Trident meet?

Tertius711

There’s way too much land they’d have to take to make their Westerlands holdings contiguous lol. Heck wouldn’t that border gore make it look worse lol? Besides it wouldn’t be the last territory they give to a viceroy to rule at a distance.

Tertius711

The North is the most obvious choice to be left for last yes. But while they might not ally with the Faith Militant, that may not mean that they’re idle either. We shall see if Aegon truly intends to go for the Vale next. Stay tuned!

costochondritis

hopefully upon taking the reach, the targs add the stretch north of the mander to their crown holdings so their lands will be contiguous lol, it bugs my ocd that their westerland holding has to be ruled from a distance by viceroy

NobleBoy24 .

i agree, better knock out Vale now, you could lowkey leave north last since their the least likely to have allies as the rest of the kingdoms are Andal. If you knock out Vale, you literally have a relatively safe rear (since the Northmen wont ally with a faith militant south) and just expand south easily.

Tertius711

An interesting analysis! Well said! Thanks for reviewing! Stay tuned to see how things proceed!

DoggY

The Vale would be the next best conquest. What would be conventionally the hardest kingdom to conquer due to their mountains and fortifications prove moot to dragon flame. The Rangers could maybe even get in contact with some of the Mountain Clans to get info on different routes and pathways in the mountains that are unknown to the Vale lords so Targ raiders can harass the enemy supply line. Taking the Vale will also eliminate a rival Andal territory that might arise when called to a holy war by the high Septon as the North won’t go to war for the faith. This will secure your northern border as the Targs prepare for what will probably be their hardest fight against a Stormland/Reach alliance along with a Holy Crusade against them. The North and Dorne being rather isolationists will most likely stay out of it hoping their enemies will kill each other. Leaving those two the last kingdoms to conquer

Tertius711

Split up and go for the Vale and North simultaneously? Hmm. Could be an overstretch though. As for the children joining in, deffo stay tuned!

Beastmode2003

I would have Visenya attack the Vale next and subdue it, while Rhaenys focuses on the North. Aegon would remain at Summerhall with Balerion to guard against any potential attacks from the South. Depending on how much time passes before the next campaign, the older children could join the efforts, gaining valuable experience in the process.

Tertius711

The Vale may indeed cause issues yes due to the possibility of guerilla warfare. I do have to state that the Vale is actually very fertile and rich. That being said yes, the Reach is a greater prize. All of that said and done though, the Reach is sort of like a final boss because of the Faith, Maesters etc there and the sheer size and bulk of its armies. At this point, going to war with the Reach is locking yourself into the Faith Militant vs Maegor war and that will be a very long drag and take years. Strategically Aegon perhaps might decide to conquer the Vale to further strengthen his own realm's armies and economy before taking on the Reach and remove another front to that inevitable long war. Would this be a mistake though? Maybe it is. Maybe the Reach and Stormlands would coalition and attack the Targaryens anyway should the Vale be invaded so it's better to hold the Vale at the Bloody Gate and go for the Reach and Stormlands first but at the same time too that will 100% guarantee the Vale becoming a guerilla hell with its lords and Faith Militant having years upon years to prepare a resistance in the mountains and by the time the Targaryens wrap up in the Reach and Stormlands the Vale would be a nightmare to properly conquer. It all depends on how things play out and I certainly never promised that Aegon would make no mistakes whatsoever. How I perceive things and how the characters perceive things are not the same. Unreliable narrator, bias etc all apply and the characters both Targaryen and otherwise may miscalculate. You're just gonna have to stay tuned to see where this goes! One good thing for Aegon though is that his intentional decision to not intervene in Essos has ensured that Braavos could care less what he does in Westeros so that's something reassuring.

Arcturus

Well maybe you right🤔 I just afraid that war in mountains is same hard as in desserts, so it potentially takes too much time and outcomes like resources and other goods is not so good. Reach is the pearl of Westeros, same as Westerlands. More than that it's center of most antagonistic groups like Faith and Maesters so for me naturally concentrate attention on bigger problems and rewards than not fertile or rich region like Vale. It wouldn't run away and could be done in any time Reach and Stormlands otherwise could become much bigger problems if you give them enough time. They would have ally even in Essos like Braavos with it's pool of gold or some other nations who afraid that Targaryens would create new Valyria. You're author and know better. But for strategic goals I recommend choose go South than East if Aegon wants achieve Westeros' hegemony. But still I will be glad read this story ahead, with any decisions you'll make 😁👌

Tertius711

The Arryns make for easy targets to compel the surrender of the Vale though no? Much like OTL? Wdyt of that possibility? Not to say you are wrong ofc. Many different analyses and possible outcomes and many of them valid.

Arcturus

Theoretically it's possible and as andalic Kingdoms it's quite logical. But problem with coordination and distance. Vale has only few options to move army, block Moongates and destroy fleet, they would be blocked inside. So with valemen out of the game, it's naturally stay south kingdoms. They are much more important and dangerous, with bigger men resources. So if would be Aegon, I'd rather concentrate my attention on them, but firstly destabilize situation in Vale and North as much as possible As option he could ally with Dorne and essosy pirates to attack andals. Rhoynars have long bloody story with Marches and their Kingdoms. Promise not attack, because it's problematic fight in desserts

Tertius711

Wdym you are afraid no one from the South (I'm presuming the Reach and the Stormlands here) would give them that opportunity? You think the Reach and Stormlands would coalition against the Targaryens should they invade the Vale?

Arcturus

I afraid that no one from South would give them such opportunity and they should be deal with as most dangerous enemies on continent. That would take a lot time and power but still it's far more important than North or Vale

Tertius711

Thanks! I'm glad you like the Targaryen decisions! The Reach and Stormlands might be too large a target for the next conquest though no? Especially if they are allied as you say? Perhaps striking at the Vale earlier could be a way to help reduce one of those fronts since you suspect the North and Vale would strike from behind? Cooperating with locals like Bolton and Royce hmm? Interesting. Maybe. I'm uncertain if there's any contact with the Wildlings or Mountain clans that's feasible for the Targaryens' positioning though. Especially the Wildlings.

Tertius711

I'm glad you think so! And yes, Casterly Rock and Lannisport are deffo the kind of fiefs you'd have to be genuinely stupid to let any vassal have. I've appended the sigil of House Gryvetheon of the Golden Tooth to the chapter so do check that out. As for the replacement of lords with Valyrians in future campaigns, let's just say the Westerlands is the last time they have such an easy time with getting lords to surrender. I have a finalized list of Valyrian families for the Wards already worry not! Sigils is a different story but we shall see how that goes!

Tertius711

I'm glad you're happy. And yeah so sorry! University is a pain. Trying to plan on getting 13 out in a more expedient time though. Stay tuned!

Tertius711

Technically the glass candles are magic and have been shown lel. Idk the Targaryens do have some fire magic and blood magic but I'm not sure how exactly to show it in the story as of yet tbch. They haven't so far needed it at all since they're always riding their dragons. Any ideas or suggestions? Their magic is at least on part with that of the Velaryons in High Tide Chapter 61 I'd say though maybe they don't have as many nice artifacts. They do have bloodfire though.

Tertius711

Glad you like seeing the conquest and reorganization! Fair point on the Archon, my mind blanked out on who could be the Archon but with some sleep I was able to come up with someone. Made the edits already, do check them!

Kolek

Good to see the conquest and reorganization progressing, though I find it strange that Aegon didn't name who the new Archon is. Did he really leave Castery rock without a steward?

TyrantGod

Are you gonna show some magic soon? Will the Targ show more magic during conquest?

Arcturus

Nice chapter and good decisions with creating new crown province, new Wardens. Now Targaryens have wonderful resource base for following steps. But good question about next target for strike. I would say Reach and Stormlands in the same time because I think these two would form military pact or even personal union with Argella and second-third Gardners' son to attack or at least defend themselves against dragons. In these case North and Vale could try to attack in the same time from back, when all dragons, legions and levies would fighting against South. So I recommend start cooperation with native Lords like Boltons and Royces, who have ambitions and power to prevent such movement before dragons look on these Kingdoms More than that, I recommend start cooperation native enemies of these states(Wildings and Mountain clans) who could rebel and fight in guerilla war for long time. It will concentrate people, money and other staff on these problems without them entering war against Targaryens. You only need to give them some resources, food, weapons and instructors to teach them. In enough nnumber to make problems to Starks and Arryns, but not enough to become problematic for Targaryens. Real politics from best practices of Romans and Americans🥴👌

King Henry V

Glad for the chapter but this was a long time coming…

NobleBoy24 .

Smart choice in making a crown province, the Lannister seat is too powerful to be given to any vassal. If possible what is the sigil for the ward of the gold tooth? With the amount of success Aegon is acquiring wouldnt it get harder and harder to replace old house with valryian ones, as they would just capitulate when Aegon declares war? How would you counter that? Btw, if things keep going as is, you might wanna start introducing more valryian family and sigils.
