Worldbuilding Week 3
🕑 Added 2022-06-16 04:44:30 +0000 UTCThis week I want to work on the folklore of the Runalymo. Folk tales about monsters, history, weather, and people. I already have one but having more will certainly help give the Runalymo culture depth.
I'm not asking for an essay, a simple concept suggestion is good enough to help give me a different point of view on how to approach this aspect of culture. I had considered many things, such as a story similar to Beowolf and Chupacabra but I want something more fitting to the Runalymo culture. I already have one full story, and two concept ideas on my campfire.
Each folktale should serve some purpose, either foreshadowing, or has a lesson to teach, like the story of icarus or tower of babel warning to not go too far above one's own ability.

I’m not sure if this would be good but there are slight parallels to the exodus, in which they leave the world at large and isolate themselves. And a flood narrative when Safyr flooded the nexus because of all of the various societal turmoil that bothered her peace. The story of the exodus could be carved onto the temple walls. The flood account could have scattered tales from the new islands and regions of the Nexus, considering how they would’ve been affected differently. If there were to be stories about the dungeon especially around the temple you could imagine ruined walls. The stories at the temple would likely be told in the muralistic form with only a little writing. You could also imagine that a corruption of the dungeon story be monsters being enemies faced during the escape from the main part of the world, ie what they were escaping from.

I guess in line with Maury's suggestion you can make stories about seeking perfection in their passion and as Maury mentioned how not to take it too far such as for example working so hard that you ignore everyone else for that passion and maybe even harm others for that passion. You can also have stories on the dangers of having arrogance for your skills in your craft to teach humility. Another idea is to have folkstories about the mana storms that can be told to children so that while they know to be wary of them, they also appreciate the benefits they bring which can tie in to flora and fauna

on a more serious note: https://www.worldhistory.org/Narcissus/ there's that one story about the fool that drowned in his own reflection because he thought he was the most beautiful and fell in love with his own reflection. given that runalymo are naturally beautiful and worship myrou it wouldn't be too out there for them to have a folktale about what happens when you take things too far. especially when they seem to advocate balance.

How about a half remembered tale from the fall of the last Runalymo civilization, adjusted for their more tribal 'modern' lifestyle? Along the lines of: Many years ago a distant village sought to rule the other villages. As they were only one village, the consorted with an ancient malevolent entity to conquer the other Runalymo. But the entity betrayed them and brought calamity over the entirety of the Nexus. Many Runalymo perished before the remaining Villages came together and sent the greatest warriors who eventually managed to defeat the entity. There could be possible lessons here about being strong together; not consorting with unknown/ unknowable beings or that the ambitions of the few can spell doom upon the many. Also it could serve as a backstory for the ancestral meeting and the Kheshamo. Also also in the rewrite (provided you keep the event) you could use that story as a justification for Papuyos war and as history repeating itself after she unleashes the cursed being.
