I carefully examine the infected before me; most have surface-level infections that can easily be cut away and healed. The problem is those that suffered injuries and have corruption deeper inside their bodies. The ones with limb injuries can have their arms or legs amputated and regrown, but that is not ideal. The healers aren’t so strong that they can restore limbs in a few hours; it takes weeks to fully restore limbs.
Internal organ damage is the same way. With next to zero actual medical knowledge of the body, even with my eyewraps making them see where the corruption is, more damage can be done. Thankfully vitality can keep people “alive” even when the body is dead, but the longer the body is dead, the faster the vitality drain is, and we don’t have enough healers to keep everybody alive, especially considering all the infected from all the villages.
The infection spread is alow but not slow enough that they can wait until one person is treated to a stable, non-life-threatening point. No matter how I look at it, some people are dying, and there’s potential for more to be infected since any flesh cut off will spawn more eldritch offshoots.
What about Klaman? The thought rises to the surface of my mind. Klaman is powerful enough to slay the offshoots, and with his void Bond he can surgically remove the flesh in a way that no offshoots will spawn.
However, there are a few complications and unknowns. One, I can ask him for help in return to accept his duel; win or lose, I’d ask for his help anyway so he can pay it before the duel. He may even straight up ask for me to become empress, but if it’s to save my family and people, that is a price I am willing to pay.
The real problem lies in the time needed to get him. Even if I can use his tracking abilities to lead him here, I doubt he can teleport so far; he is a low-tier legendary being, probably one of the weakest. Plus, he still doesn’t solve the issue of people dying from not being healed in time. Lanya is out of the question, we’d have to get her with the Entylamo, and that’d take too long.
I still don’t know if enhancing a cursed skill is safe or not, I don’t think it will turn me into a cursed being, but that is a possibility. The most likely case is that the point, which is a large packet of experience, or, as my memories show, aether, will neutralize the miasma before enhancing my skill, resulting in a weak enhancement.
The problem lies in the fact that in order to make my skill safe, I need to incorporate it into a class or race; the race takes time to adjust my body, and the longer we wait to start treatment, the more people will die.
Then there’s the problem that if I don’t incorporate it into my race, more miasma will build up, and the curse will take effect in an enhanced skill; there’s no telling how dangerous that will be to me.
I can still safely manipulate this alien mana because it’s normally unstable in the layer, my curse doesn’t copy the magical stabilizing effect, but the enhanced version may do so.
The stabilizing effect also isn’t from the First Inscription since it stabilizes spells due to a lack of range control, not layer instability, but just to be safe, I’ll send a clone to turn it off.
So what are my options? Surgery? We don’t have the heals to save everyone. Klaman? Same problem and other issues. Enhance my [Manipulate Mana]? Takes too long or is too risky to me. Lanya? Takes too long too.
No matter what I consider, nothing works!
What about the Mana Arc? Another thought surfaces.
It’s incomplete. It was made to redirect the torrent of mana entering the Nexus, not for fine control. Plus, I don’t know if I can use it for heal everyone and have it do its normal job at the same time. It’s a risk that can potentially kill many more people.
However, if I free Kayafe, she can heal everyone in a safe way that won’t create more eldritch offshoots; only Kayafe can save everyone. However, I don’t have any way to free her; I can’t just break the Mana Arc, and I can’t make a new one yet, nor do I have time to but don’t I already have an idea to free her? By pushing her out of the nexus and replacing her with something of equal power, I should be able to free her.
However, I don’t have anything equal to her power in [Manipulate Magic]; I have no way to free her… Except, do I need something of her level? There is a way to not only free Kayafe and keep the Mana Arc but also improve it; it just takes a sacrifice.
I place a hand on my necklace Kyhosa, the symbolic representation of my life. It has been with me all my life. It has grown with me, helped me overcome great tribulations, and been with me through the best and worst times of my life. It is a gift from my parents; it’s only natural that I use it to help heal them.
A life for a life.
To free Kayafe.
To save my people.
To save my family.
I push the twins off me, bending down to their level, and pat them on the head.
“I’ll be right back,” I say. “Your big sister will make sure everyone has a happy ending to this scary day” I give them one last hug and step outside, conjure my wings and fly to Temple Island.
Once there, I see Safyr and Yrania sitting next to the temple entrance. Safyr Gives me a knowing nod without saying anything. I suspect Safyr didn’t enlighten her granddaughter on anything.
I fly over them to the top of the Temple, standing before the familiar gemlike Mana Arc. I study the thing once more, Seeing how Kayafe had built the thing with my learned insight.
Mana Arc of Kayafe's Final Will:
(Legendary) (Ancient) (Legacy)
Created by a true master of mana, Kayafe in an attempt to save her people and give them a land free of tyranny and a place they can truly call home, sealed her body to provide a catalyst for the Mana Arc. With the capabilities of drawing in vast amounts of mana, storing it, and redirecting it. This Mana Arc has transformed a hellish wasteland into a paradise free of monsters.
Monster Inhibitor, Battery (10B), Mana Draw, Mana Redirection, Mana Liquification.
It’s made with super-solid mana with veins of liquid mana flowing as if pushed around by a beating heart.
I now understand why she did it this way, magic items utilize symbolism and meanings to help direct their transformation, but there’s a better way to do it, have the liquid mana form the mana gathering inscription.
One thing that I never thought to consider, the Mana Arc, never actually has the [Manipulate Magic] skill; it has always been borrowing that from Kayafe, truly incomplete.
I examine my Kyhosa one last time before I lose it forever.
Alysara's Celestial Storm Kyhosa:

This Relic set: Amulet, left bracelet, right bracelet, is made from Nexus gems and Myrou gold blessed by Myrou herself and filled to the brim with beauty and creativity essence, was given as a Kyhosa to Alysara during her Kyholo. When worn, it Enhances Beauty, Creativity, and Elemental spells by 2000% and boosts intelligence and wisdom by 75%. Grants the Skill: Manipulate Mana 550/550, Celestial Spear, Celestial Shield, Celestial Storm, Linked, Battery (300,000).
Magic items that grow with someone are often far more powerful than those that don’t. If anything, they have more history to them.
I never had the chance to use its celestial abilities, I suppose it’s fortunate that I never needed to until recently, but even then, it wouldn’t have helped against the legendary beings.
My Kyhosa has the inscription of Kayafe’s [Manipulate Magic] on it. It’s now decorative, but the hope was that it would give my Kyhosa the [Manipulate Magic] skill. Now I can only hope it works this time. In any case, the Mana Arc can’t get any worse, and even if it can’t handle the same amount of mana, an increase in ambient mana won’t immediately kill everyone. Plus, Kayafe can support the Mana Arc until we make a better one if the worst is to happen.
It is finally time. I take off my bracelets and the necklace with a heavy heart. This has to be done. My people have gone through enough disasters; I won’t have another end in tragedy.
I start by drawing out some of my own vitality for Kayafe’s soul to latch onto, she will have to do the rest, but she won’t have a normal body to live in.
I steady my emotions as I raise my Kyhosa up to the Mana Arc. I don’t want to lose it; I want to be selfish just this once so I don’t lose the one thing that matters to me most, aside from my family, but is that fair to the people who would die? What about their family? Who will have to grieve? What about Kayafe, who has already suffered enough, and who has made a greater sacrifice that would eventually grant me this peaceful life?
It wouldn’t be fair. In the end, my Kyhosa is just a jewel.
I push my Kyhosa into the Mana Arc, the surface of it rippling as it accepts my offer.
The world stands still as if all time has frozen; all the mana stands still, even defying the Mana Arc. A strange presence washes over me like the gentle waves of the sea flow returns to the world as Kayafe’s soul is ejected from the Mana Arc.
I catch her with the vitality and instantly lose control over it as more and more condenses around her soul, transforming into more vitality, becoming denser and denser, forming a solid and somehow living structure of pure vitality!
“A-Alysara?” Kayafe’s feminine voice tickles my ears as her body forms a skin of light mana, and mana silk clothes form around her.
However, before I can answer, our attention is drawn to the Mana Arc as its new transformation takes place.
It didn’t take long, which isn’t surprising since there’s so much mana here; all of its mana needs is satisfied within ten seconds, which is honestly surprising that it needed that much. It would have taken weeks to months outside the Nexus and probably days inside it.
Outwardly the Mana Arc barely changed at all, but on the inside, it become so much more. Circular lines of liquid mana begin to flow, carving new paths as the old close up. More and more circles are drawn until a sphere is formed under the hard exterior. More lines form inside the thin liquid mana sphere until a three-dimensional version of the [Manipulate Magic] magic framework is formed.
Mana Arc of the Saintess’:

Created by the Saintess of the Runalymo, Kayafe, and perfected by the Saintess of Mana and Magic, Alysara, through their sacrifices, they have made a true Mana Arc. With Kayafe spending 10,000 years inside it to protect her people and Alysara giving up her Kyhosa to save her people and family, this Mana Arc is born out of the altruistic and selfless nature of its creators. This Mana Arc will defend its people, the Runalymo, from all threats with its endless supply of mana.

@Jeanean I will point out for the sake of your proposed scenarios, Comiak has made a statement that no being is naturally born legendary. Dragons can be spawned legendary, but dragons who are hatched from eggs will be born exalted. This same deal goes for any child of a Legendary+ exalted-tier race. (This is why I'm pushing for the idea that Alysara has a race that is born minor tier but has the OP ability to 1. guarantee a race-tier evolution every 5 years of life, and 2. does not require points to level up race past legendary up till whatever tier Alysara was when she started having kids. Best part, if this is true, there won't even be a world announcement when members of this OP race start going legendary (at least in their race.))

Tbh I'd very much prefer she didn't end up with anyone at all. And even if she does I'd prefer it to be anyone but Tana tbh. There's just too much going on, and then we have the reality eater to contend with eventually, I just don't know when we'd throw in a child raising arc. It also feels like there's no one out there even close to being able to match her, and if someone did magically catch up like that I feel like it'd feel artificial. Aside from that the 'broodmare bad ending' has been hanging over our heads with the elders and more recently Klaman that the idea just makes me feel gross tbh.

I think Kayafe is a better friend/colleague than a potential lover. Tana has the drive to become Legendary along with Aly. I think Tana is the closest possibility out of who we know at the moment. But still, she's got way too much on her plate to even care about that right now.

And artificial insemination would be baiting a major cursed being event far too much. Just swallowing a bit of blood from someone of the same species or taking in a bit of their mana seems to be enough for someone to become a cursed being, which begs the question why mothers and their children dont become cursed beings during pregnancy while the mothers heart is beating for the child. This might be because its considered a natural process? If so it would also explain why a woman does not become a cursed being upon being impregnated with her partners sperm, or just exchanging some saliva while kissing. Because its a natural process. If so artificial insemination between 2 of the same gender would not be considered a natural process and would probably trigger a cursed being becoming born. We dont really know enough about this stuff yet.

Tana and Uloru in their current state arent fit for her either, but they could always change, we dont know what Comiak has planned(I am a fan of the way Tana approaches dungeons as if they are a game, but this also shows how immature he is in comparison). Kayafe though is just wrong, as shes essentially Aly's ancestor + your point of age difference earlier does not work as Aly only have memories of her current life + a few from her previous while she was alive, the rest are basically a fast forwarded movie thanks to Yrania so they would not change her much. So with Kayafe having spent centuries with the human emperor and the 2 others travelling between realms, the reason she and Aly cant be together would be the same reason for why Aly is not a good fit for anyone from her current generation either due to being too mature due to the additional memories. In order for Aly to find a partner I suspect it will be up to whoever that partner is to go through quite a few things so they can mature far beyond their age or something, maybe end up in a different realm where time flows a little faster and experience some hardships there? Would fit with the new enemies that has appeared.

At this point, there are two ways I see this story developing in this regard: Version 1: -Alysara evolves to Heroic. -Tana gets "redemption" arc (probably including longwinded travel and adventuring on a certain foreign continent) -Tana returns as a "true man" after becoming Exalted shortly after Aly becomes Exalted too -They get together and have kids -Bam, new naturally Exalted race, and everyone is happy Version 2: (My favorite because its much more fun, chaotic, and generally not the safe but boring choice.) -Alysara and Kayafe get closer while working together and generally saving the Runalymo time and again -They manage to push back the gods attempts at having a go at Aly and become a couple in the process -By the time they get some peace, Aly is Legendary -Alysara and Kayafe settle down to get a well earned vacation and decide to have kids (Because Aly's Heirloom Race is basically a Chekhov's nuclear warhead) -They develop artifical insemination, because they are intelligent women who can easily find a workaround for the problem of none of them having a dick -And once the kids are born (accompanied by a Legendary worldannouncement), the gods come knockin' for round two, because none of them wants to deal with a naturally Legendary race that isn't also a race of natural loners, but instead natural Caster-mages, who are most well known in most places for their ability to Channel spells in groups and punch up significantly. Even more so if they also multiply at the same rate as any other race that normally only lives for 100 years on average, and without the mitigating factor of people dying of old age at that. -LET THE CHAOS ENSUE!!!!

While Aly has a significant amount of memories, they have been compartmentalised into something more along the line of a video that she has watched thanks to Yrania, so it does not translate to age in the traditional sense. Only the memories she recovered naturally counts towards that I think. BUT we are all forgetting something very important here. Didnt realise it at first either myself because of how the Runalymo species looks, so we probably just overlooked it. Both Alysara and Kayafe are female. Neither are hermaphrodites(futa). We know this for a fact in both due to having followed Aly all along and Kayafe was born before the Runalymo resided in the nexus, where they got the milk trait due to lack of food. In other words, since Kayafe looks like a woman, she is one.

So what? regarding the difference in age, you have to remember that Kayafe spent basically the entirety of the 10.000 years until Alysara came around inside the Mana Arc, "sleeping". And if you want to start splitting hairs, NO ONE is gonna get even close to Aly in terms of Age difference. She could MAYBE date the Realm Eater, but who would want to see that?

Yeah, so Aly is going to hook up with some scrub who won't even live 1/10 as long as her when she gets Legendary. Maybe someone catches up in 50 years to Aly, but then you run into the same thing. Also, I don't think Kay had a mate. Did we ever learn that? I got the impression she was like Aly in the lonely princess club. Sacrificed herself for her people.

I mean, Aly can literally just teach her all the needed breakthroughs for Sense Magic, it wouldnt really take much time compared to using a LP just to do what Kayafe can do. It would be interesting to test it at the very least

But Kayafe would need a very high level of Sense Mana/Magic before she could do that. It would be much better if Alysara just "cleaned" her Manipulate Mana, incorporates it in her Race, and enhances it, and then regularly "cleaned" her other cursed Skills herself.

Does Alysara even need Legendary points anymore to deal with cursed skills? Manipulate Magic can deal with miasma, and with Kayafe free, cant Kayafe just straight up remove the miasma in her cursed skills now which can be followed with her incorporating them into race/classes? Safyr said if Kayafe was free during the cursed being event she could have dealt with the miasma and stopped the cursed being from forming in the first place, so I dont see why dealing with a little bit of miasma inside of a cursed skill would be a problem if she gets the necessary breakthroughs. Only downside to doing it this way would be if there is a LP(or better) gained from first one to cure a cursed skill then it would go to Kayafe instead of Alysara.

Just realized something. It was hinted several times that Safyr is using her Title to summon a Dragon strike commando. Which basically implies that Titles give you some kind of special power, at least in some cases. Question is now, what is Alysara going to get out of it?

I doubt she will get an exalted option due to her legacy race being upgraded to a unique one, as that means her requirements are way higher than before. She can take the best available race option to her and then upgrade it with the LP she just got, or maybe save the LP for when she eventually gets exalted so she can jump it up to legendary? Ofc this is assuming the point is legendary, if it is fabled then she definitely needs to save it til shes legendary as that point combined with her mythic one would allow her to just straight up become mythic the second she becomes legendary, and pass all of this on to her descendants. And now with Kayafe free she will have someone to rely on who is willing to take a more hands on approach to help her get stronger once she recovers her strength.

Well, it might be quite the same, but Safyr did say she would give Alysara one of her scales as replacement, and I think that might cause some of her Kyhosa's history to get carried over to the new item. So I see a good chance that it becomes a Magic Item as well. Never mind that, with Kayafe's help and her Manipulate Mana getting an upgrade to Manipulate Magic, it might even become a Legendary item, albeit not a growing one.

She wont get a LP from completing the mana arc as she did not build it herself from scratch, and neither will Kayafe get one since she did not make it by herself either. What caught me off guard though is the fact her title just appeared out of nowhere without granting her a LP, but maybe it is just different? We dont exactly know much about titles yet.

I'm pretty sure that was a Legendary worldannouncement, meaning Alysara got a Legendary point. Now, between her new title, the healing of her Cursed Skills, her achievement of finishing the Mana Arc, and basically everything else, I'm gonna be a little worried if she doesn't get an Exalted tier race, because I have absolutely no idea what the hell else she is supposed to do to reach Exalted otherwise. Also, if her new race can incorporate all three of her cursed Skills, its gonna go a little nuts with how powerful it is...

If you think about it, this might actually be two legendary feats, the first for freeing kayafe and the second one for completing the mana arc. Still a bit unsure, but it would deffinately solve the problem of having a pain to cleanse her skills, and a point to evolve her race, although she likely won't achive legendary for a decade or so

Probably felt rushed from the Eldritch invasion, which tbh is fair and a little truthful, I probably could have foreshadowed it a little more. But, I did sprinkle several symbolisms and foreshadows for how Kayafe gets free.

Damn. I agree that this feels a bit rushed, both in the chapter and in the set-up leading to this specific event being what leads to Kayafe's freedom, but (and this is an important but) the bones are there. The reasons behind the decision all work and are in line with the world and the characters. Perhaps in the future a few rewrites to add more foreshadowing of this moment a bit to more fully support it wouldn't be out of line. Regardless, this is a good moment we have been waiting for and I look forward to what happens next. That announcement feels like a Legendary action (or even Fabled) but more interesting than the announcement itself is the TITLE. She is now titled by the system itself, which I doubt is common. I am VERY curious to see what that might mean going forward.

She has a body of Vitality, it isn't much of a step to go from Vitality > Flesh, as that's the way it usually works, that's why Aly prepared some in advance for Kayafe's soul to match on to. With Manipulate magic, I doubt Kayafe will be in a mana like state for long.

Oi! Now that's a SERIOUS legendary point! That one would be powerful if she used it to enhance her race. I know purifying her manipulate mana is a big deal too, but seriously, WOW! Now I kind of want her to wait and hold off on the skill purifying.
