Thanks Stuart, I haven't seen the details of the proposed act, but if it leaves it up to individuals to fund their legal battles, I don't see how it would be any different to what we already have. I assumed it would include funding and resources to ensure that cannot happen. But sure, if it's badly drafted legislation that intentionally disadvantages Independents, that would certainly be a problem

Unfortunately, Truth in political advertising will never work, Anne Twomey explains it well on Constitutional clarion. Basically, they will deliberately make a false ad and tie up their opponent's time and money in court instead of on the campaign. This would really hurt the independents who have very limited staff and finances.

Mark - We have minority rule in the US due to many factors the main one being gerrymandering. The RShits are in the majority in the House, Senate and they have the Oval Office. All the Orange Hitler has is a gerrymandate. My conclusion is that the parliamentary system is far superior to the US first-past-the-post system that virtually guarantees that no third party will ever with the White House or enough seats to control, or even be a factor in the House or Senate. That's assuming we ever again have a free and fair election. . . .
