It's not too hard to make the standalone factorio use relative save/mod/blueprint locations, so you can have entirely self contained Factorio folders that have the game + mod versions + blueprints + saves for that game only, makes it a lot easier to run experimental versions too. It's how I run different overhaul mods so I don't have to deal with disabling/enabling mods in bulk if I want to change saves.

Oh, I'm always running experimental versions of Factorio, so if you do that you'll be able to load it normally. If you right click on Factorio in your steam library, hit Properties, and then Betas, you'll find a drop down menu where you can choose "Latest experimental" Be aware that if you downgrade it'll clear your entire blueprint library. I've had that happen enough times for me to make a save specifically to store copies of all my important blueprints in a chest.
