I think these tentacles are surprisingly solicitous, in that they seem to be waiting for consent. Obviously, they are not *that* type of tentacle. That Sydney would be distracted I can understand, but I am surprised Max didn't just go around, or plow through if necessary - I would have thought she would be more mission focused.
