The Nazis one upped that back in the 1930s. A journalist had written some uncomplimentary stories about them so they decided to eliminate him. They marched straight up to his apartment building, broke open the door and then went into the wrong flat because the poor sap who lived there had the same last name. Shot him in front of his wife and children, then left. The journalist could take a hint. He wrote one last scathing article where he called the Nazis out on not even being able to kill the right man, mailed it in and then hurriedly fled and changed his name. It's a good thing we don't live in times like that. :P

Something very like that happened to my uncle and his family. Cops got the address wrong, broke down his door, threatened the kids with guns. There was no apology nor any form of recompense.
