Most likely the bottom will pinch off, automatically creating an airtight bubble if she starts flying. (I don't recall if that has happened in the comic, yet.) Perhaps it would also seal if she jumped off a cliff without using the flyball, but I don't believe that has been tested...

the bubble will phase through solid, immobile matter at the time when it is created, thus creating a dome-like shape instead of the aerial hamster ball if Sydney brings it out while standing on solid ground.

This maybe has already been explained, but since it's so visible in this post... Since Sidney's bubble is air tight, how does the floor get into it? Wouldn't she be walking around like a hamster when it's on the floor?
