I would use 12. That way the ship can move as needed without loss of coverage. However, there are only 11 launch bays! This would be poor design, unless each bay can contain more than one pod. They launch 7 from the first rank and 5 more from the unseen second rank, and have at least 10 pods left. If there are three ranks, that would be 21 pods left. Internal nanofactories get busy building new pods out of material stores as soon as one is launched. At least, that is how I would set it up if I had their level of tech.

Could be cybernetic, could be that once the air-mask deploys it locks in auto-hardening of the uniform on impact has it serve as a neck brace/support.

Not to be critical about design choices, but what's the thought behind having the uniform come up onto the cheek like that? (I would find it annoying...)
