It's not always that the problem is bad translations, it's that sometimes translation is impossible. What happens when the absolute best possible translation of a Palainian's job is "Chief Dexitroboper"? With further inquiry only clarifying the terminology to be somewhat involved with nutrition? So... "Do only that which one cannot do." You need a team. Or, at least, a partner.

I'll guess that Syd's orbs are from some late FTL civ's late "faffing about" period as they're beginning to transition to post-FLT / super-civ / space wizards. Not really Nth tech.

Yes, because every one of you recognizes that you'll basically be in the same situation HALO is if you ever manage to beat her *and* attune with the orbs. Which, incidentally, if they are god tier artifacts, you won't be able to do if you attacked her. So there's really no point in attacking her besides giving her combat xp.
