I hope Sydney's experience with foreign food goes better than some of mine have gone... me "Wait, that wasn't vegan? I specifically ordered it vegan!" Proprietor: "Yes, but we like to throw in an extra egg no charge to bring people back." Me: ARGH! Fortunately for me, I've gotten better at discovering those on the first bite rather than the last. As far as any 10 times hotter stories goes - that's generally a perceptual skew due to the fact that our exit pathways have been optimized for issues such as spiciness to have been resolved by the earlier GI tract. It will actually be substantially less than the amount of spiciness it had going in. It just *feels* hotter.
