Maybe so...but even if both of you are right to some extent, I'm still surprised that she didn't get on someone's nerves (or vice versa) to the point that explody things would happen without there being a legit lab to destroy. :)

Deus has a fake laboratory that is used just for presentations to clients and other dignitaries. It is filled with the things that people expect from diabolical science including lots of shiny, fancy looking gizmos that actually do nothing. It is that laboratory that Sydney has been playing in.
