Oh, to hear that debriefing.

Still worked that way when I was in air Force basic in 2006. But in this case she was due back pay anyway for the two months she was gone, I don't think it would be an advance.

I don't think the slop chest (Naval equivalent of Petty Cash; not sure what Army or Air Force would call it) would be where Sydney winds up going. If she needed funds in advance of her pay, she might go to Personnel to sell accumulated leave, if she had accumulated any. Or she might go to the nearest bank or credit union for a personal loan. The only time I can think of that military personnel get any pay in advance is when they report to boot camp and they are given a fixed amount of script to pay for uniform tailoring, haircuts, and incidental supplies. This would be taken out of their first paychecks, but we didn't get any paychecks until we were about to graduate. Of course, this was over three decades ago for me...

I rewrote that several times, and it's just kind of a sloppy sentence no matter how you put it. But... I guess with dialog, it's fine as long as the meaning comes across?

Mmmmyeah. in ANY military operation, particularly one that's gone spectacularly sideways, the debriefing comes FIRST. Brass wants to know exactly, precisely, what happened so they can plan for the fallout.
