In the smaller/average shops maybe. But most don't have the ability to get a location which offers that much floor space. Not to mention they also have the spaces upstairs, the other rooms off to the sides of the vestibule (the hall between the front doors and the main shop floor that can be seen in panels 7 & 8). Plenty of storage likely in those areas and the basement. Basically they have enough space to not end up cluttered.

In my town we’ve had one become a bar/nightclub, pizza place and now an orchestra, another is a gym, and another a theatre. Old churches are really adaptable!

You can tell that they are still in the early stages as there is too little stuff and too much room. A proper comics and game shop tends towards a quaint cluttered look which leads the consumer into believing that there may be a sweet deal hidden in some out-of-the-way corner. Plus, nerds collect shit.
