Grrl Power #1309 - Hell-oooo nurse!
🕑 Added 2024-12-02 11:00:17 +0000 UTCThank you for the support! You guys are awesome!
I don't have to tell anyone that's Dabbler, right? I considered putting "<----(Dabbler)" on the page, but between her eyes, behavior, the Who's Who and someone in the comments invariably asking "Who's the nurse?" and 11 answers, only 7 of which are facetious, I'm sure there are enough clues.
Hey, let's play a game. Someone ask "Who's the nurse?" as a top level comment, and every reply should be wrong answers only. I'll go first. Clearly, that is Larry Hagman, who finally got the wish he really wanted.
Here's a question; <-- should I use a semicolon there or a colon?
And here's an actually slightly related question; Samantha or Jeannie? Who was more powerful? Both were very long lived, both could alter reality and perception, and it seemed that it didn't take any effort to maintain the changes they wrought. Both could time travel. They're like six Doctor Who villains rolled into one. Someone should make a Star Trek sitcom about someone dating a Q. It'd be the same exact show as Jeannie/Bewitched, just set in late 2300's San Francisco, and he's constantly trying to keep her from altering the timeline because the Federation commissary pretzel stand ran out of mustard or something. Hell, that would actually work to explain why every show that is a prequel series has sloppy continuity.
Maxima met Dabbler on deployment in the middle-east. Dabbler's passage to Earth spat her out in some old-disused portal that saw more traffic when Ancient Sumeria wasn't so ancient. Max and Dabbler fought, Dabbler caused a bunch of HR incidents around the base, hilarity ensues, etc.
I am working on a new vote incentive, I promise. I will try and have it up this week, if not then it'll be up with next monday's comic, at which point I will tell you about my mom's 4 hour haircut... I mean, the haircut itself wasn't 4 hours... I'll save it for the Incentive update.

I'm loving Peggy's expressions in this arc. Just amazing and for some reason with the hospital hair they're all more impactful.
eddi_TBH
What's the anesthesiologist. I Don't Know is the surgeon.
eddi_TBH
He was like Leslie Nielsen but in the opposite direction. One went from drama to comedy and the other comedy to drama. Without a misstep.
eddi_TBH
Peggy's first version of Max's appearance strongly hints she was already bi. I don't think she ever needed "Don't ask, don't tell." She's too smart to risk a career for a night of boom-boom.
eddi_TBH
Sometimes you just gotta drop the mic.
eddi_TBH
Military bureaucracy is to other government bureaucracy as military music is to Top 40 pop music.
eddi_TBH
Something subtle, like this. David Rose - "The Stripper" - ORIGINAL STEREO - '62 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACHPtToZApk
eddi_TBH
I think a good tailor could actually make them. The ankle bracelets could hide the connection.
eddi_TBH
The eye thing is deliberate. Open extra wide, makeup and just a touch of magic. Somewhat wasted on Peggy and Max. but she likes to keep in practice.
eddi_TBH
She has trouble with authority figures. She really likes Max. Think what she would be doing to some self-appointed boss she didn't like. 🤯
eddi_TBH
Max might explode. Or say, "You just killed my childhood."
eddi_TBH
Dabbler is a massive Distraction Attack with her illusions. Or holographic outfits. Peggy is smart enough to look for the hidden stinger.
eddi_TBH
She was so disappointed when there was no X-Rated version available.

Boingy! Boingy! Boingy!

The nurse is actually a time traveling Sydney after various regenerations.
gaijin 99
I throughly expect almost any official thing to take a while military or civilian. I'm just saying that IN THEORY it could actually be fairly quick. At least to cover the basics. In practice? Even people who aren't Sydney are going to have a zillion questions and there's no way you'll get out with just a brief like that.
Woodrobin
Amanda Rogers, in the episode "True Q". Both of her parents were Q who had chosen to live in human forms and had conceived and born her in the human manner. The Q Continuum killed them with a tornado when she was an infant, and she was raised by the Rogers family. The tornado was very unusual for Topeka, Kansas (where she was born) because of the weather control systems in place in that era. So they were killed just for pretending at being human too deeply, never mind actually being in a mixed relationship.
Paul Watson
Which is where he and his brother belong!
Opus the Poet
Locked in the water tower at the WB studios.
Opus the Poet
There was a Human-Q couple in TNG, who had a daughter that was orphaned by the Q Continuum. I forget the name of the episode, but it should be on Memory Alpha somewhere.
Opus the Poet
Obviously Dabbler based her eyes on the closing credits of I Dream Of Jeanie.
Opus the Poet
Some superpowers are real in our universe. I mean I don't fly outside of an aircraft of some type, but I have walked away from getting hit by a motor vehicle while crossing the street, twice. And survived getting hit by a drunk in a pickup truck going an officially estimated 60 MPH. That one sent me to a hospital for two weeks of surgery and recovery. And oohs and awws from the nurses.

BJ
Credit to Peggy she was more focused on the magic than the succubus.
Gelatinous Cube
Obviously that's the lack of crayons and bad MREs in your diet.
Hugh Eckert
The only thing that would make this better is Dabbler casting her wards by crossing her arms and doing the blink/nod. After saying "Yes, Master!", of course...
Hugh Eckert
I was thinking of it with the Eurythmics "Who's That Girl?"
Hugh Eckert
It's super effective!
Person
That's George Burns, in his pre- cigar days.
Person
That's Admiral Grace Hopper, back when she was just a wee butter bars. (Grace was a programmer on on ENIAC, and invented the compiler)
Bradley
Dabbler will never not be a walking HR violation. LoL
Bradley
Dabbler looks a little bug eyed in panel 4, might want to make 'em 20% smaller. She looks fine in panel six though. The rest of the page is awesome as usual though.
Terence Bryant-White
"Mysterious nurse" after reading Peggy's fantasies: "😳 🤤Oh my...you're an interesting one !!!, can we keep her Max ?" *looks at Maxima with knowing eyebrows 😏*
Sardines are us
excruciatingly long safety briefs must be a Marine / Army thing, in the my units (AF) it was usually a couple of minutes.
Mark Magagna
I guess they had to (sort of) explain why humans weren't blasé about Q's antics due to overexposure.
Mark Magagna
Peggy showing Sydney that it wasn't solely hawt women on the team, there were hawt men too. Sydney gets quizzical about Peggy's response.
IvyReed
At this point in the timeline Maxima is desperate to get Peggy on the team, just so she has someone to work with who isn't an absolute troll
Anton Schleef
Maybe not, but now I can't get that thought out of my head, so our crowd is growing.
Anton Schleef
I'll leave the Dabbler specific parts of that alone, but to expound on the grammatically correct part: semi-colons are for things such as lists where you have compound items as a single entry, which would make using commas confusing, while colons are more of a means of conjoining two strongly related sentences that would normally be a run-on sentence but make more sense as a single sentence, frequently utilized for adding a description/answer to the first part. The second part isn't exactly a hard rule, but that's more because of the fact that so many people have used them improperly that only the most uptight of English professors are still fighting it.
Person
J.R.R. Martin, before his writing career took off and ruined his figure with all that time sitting at a keyboard.
Erin Palette
Dave, I don't know which impresses me more: the deadpan "The veil is N-95 rated" line, or the fact that you somehow managed to fuse thigh-high stockings with harem pants and make it look plausible.
Stephen Gilberg
Nick at Nite determined it was Samantha.
Erin Palette
It was indeed mentioned. Perhaps this was the inciting incident?
Gullindjemprins
And they’re always the same, because people keep doing the same stupid (/fun/hilarious) stuff.
You_With_The_Face
Now I'm wondering if it was mentioned in am earlier comic. So many backlogs...
fiun dagner
Mr amorphous working on his disguise abilities. Obviously!
fiun dagner
Being completely serious I thought Peggy swung both ways. I swear I remember reading that and one of the early comics
fiun dagner
Clearly you're somebody who's never had to deal with the military and government in General on a regular basis. Weekend safety briefings that boil down to don't do the dumb shit can take 6 to 8 hours on a 3 day or 4 day
Town Crier
Dabbler uses major distraction and major confusion algorithms in her security coding.
Kile Mullen
I think you’ve found your next vote incentive.
gaijin 99
Presumably Max saying "nurse!" was supposed to be a signal to Dabbler to set up an anti-snoop field not to come in.
Matthew Thompson
If I remember correctly, she was referring to Q!
StLOrca
1. The nurse is Col. Rosa Klebb testing her new, alternative assassin rig. Now she’s all stiletto, all the time.
gaijin 99
I mean, it doesn't HAVE to be a long read in: "superpowers are real, magic is real, there are aliens, some of the aliens are also demons, and most beings you know about from mythology are real."
Jared Kolbly
I'm not entirely sure what is happening the first couple panels. It seems like Dabbler is supposed to be undercover as a nurse and Max called her in, but then she is suddenly telling her to not come in. Unless that is Peggy off panel telling the "nurse" to not come in to protect the confidential subject in the room, which would be odd for her to try to overrule Max. I suppose they could have planned to have Dabbler secure the room from outside when Max called, and Dabbler decided to barge in instead. But it just looks like Max told her to come in but then told her to stay out.
Czarzhan
Don't you recognize Sydney without her glasses? That veil really does conceal!
You_With_The_Face
Peggy's inner thoughs: not a lesbian not a lesbian not a lesbian... EDIT: Looks like people with a better memory than I say that an earlier comic says Peggy swings both ways. It certainly has been a minute, since I clearly forgot about it. My bad.
Woodrobin
Not sure if the Q/human thing would work. Other than de Lancie Q, most of the Continuum seem pretty strongly opposed to mortal-mingling (though to be fair, Samantha caught flack too). Hence the famous line "What are you doing with that dog?" (Q and Janeway glance at the pet he's conjured for her) "I'm not talking about the puppy."
Michael Obert
Yeah, well, at this point Peggy doesn't know that 😆
Woodrobin
The answer is that you should use a colon, for three reasons. It lets Dabbler make a double entendre about the proper use of a colon, it's grammatically correct, and it's difficult for anything to remain a semi around Dabbler anyway.
Justaguy
I was thinking of the juxtaposition of the "Dah da, da da da da dah" of the I dream of Jeannie, and the "dun da da dun da da dun da da dun" of barracuda. (Also it being used as intro music for Lucy Lu in the early days of Ally McBeal).
Woodrobin
I was thinking "Man-eater" by Hall and Oates. Barracuda is about a sleazy publicist that put out a story that the sisters in the band Heart were lovers.
Miyaa
Larry Hagman hasn’t been the same since that who shot JR episode of Dallas.
Robert Miller
Dabbler out does Barbara Eden.
Demian Buckle
Where's Wakko when you need him.
Madcat6204
I actually thought it might be Harem at first, though it quickly became apparent that I was wrong.
Paul Watson
Hellllloooooooooooo, nurse.
Justaguy
Dabblers theme song is the I dream of genie music playing in one ear, and barracuda playing in the other.
fiun dagner
Zephan zoeng. Obviously it's a magic user in a disguise spell
fiun dagner
Hiro, obviously. Can't have your shirt destroyed in a random explosion if you're not wearing one
Daniel Jenkins
Am I the only one who read all that "who's that nurse" but with "who's that pokemon" tone to it?
Thomas Dorner
She never needs to, she has her hammerspace.
Thomas Dorner
It's Harem, she's always the nurse.
Julian
Until the magic bits showed up I was thinking it was Harem, but she was probably far too young during this flashback.
Michael Obert
At least you know she's not hiding a weapon under that get up, I mean, unless you count her and here sexiness - which I do. This is what happens when Aliens learn another culture from TV and porn 🤣 (and no, you don't need to say, the heterochromia was a dead giveaway)
codesurfer
how far on the kinsey scale is Peggy now?
Seth Ruskin
So, who's the nurse? :)
Fogel
I'll start: Who's that nurse? /S
Hamish Clarkson
This is the kind of silliness I love in this comic. Dabbler, never change.
FeyOne
Hey! Who’s the nurse? :)
