It does help that some people think an SUV can wall-run. Yes, they do have better off-road capability than the typical small car. But they're not magic.

Gelatinous Cube

Loved the Vixen War Bride series! Mainly because I'm a fox fanboy, and an entire alien race of fox people just made everything better.

Jared Juetten

To be fair, if this is in Afghanistan, then yes it is indeed a very small amount of sand on a very hard, rocky surface. I speak from experience.

Matthew Thompson

“Oh what a feeling, Toyota!”

eddi_TBH

"Boy, it's amazing how much glass you can eat if you don't fill up on bread!" Super Dave Osborne after going headfirst through a backboard.

Paul Burks

I like the Vixen War Bride series from the perspective of 'how bad would two humanoid cultures be at actually communicating' angle. A little ra-ra at points but both sides did pretty heinous things that aren't excused in universe.

Peggy looks like she is trying to grab the truck with one hand. If it lands close enough to touch, she will need to be careful. That uses up her luck for the month.

eddi_TBH

Anyone with no concept of what could happen who either wants to show off or is stone crazy would do it.

eddi_TBH

Or flipped loose when all Hades broke loose in there.

eddi_TBH

Needs new upholstery though.

eddi_TBH

Well, Peggy is a maniac. But she is surrounded an army of them now.

eddi_TBH

but she got the kind of adrenaline rush rarely granted to mere mortals.

eddi_TBH

The whole of that region is full of massive erosion. Kick the wheels in a random direction and you will hit rock. With the tires slipping, if one hits sideways, Kiss your tuchus adios.

Eric Loken

It is always important to retain control of your vehicle, even when there is an explosion a couple feet over your head. I'm afraid this is going to be a an automatic failure on your driver's test.

Torabi

I only rolled once at about 80mph... But the vehicle spun around so that I was moving backwards, and I might have lost quite a bit of speed by the time it started rolling. As for "15% match on alien proper noun pronunciation", that reminds me of some study that suggested we only have about a 15% match on language with other people. They asked a bunch of people to describe what a word meant to them, what traits it had, and there wasn't much overlap on the specifics, only rough agreement on what the word referred to. The specific example I remember was "penguin". Different people had wildly different ideas about how big a penguin was, or what exactly they looked like, because there are a variety of penguins, and different people had a different species in mind as their archetypal "penguin".

Mathew Aaberg

Bad google bad. It is somersault by dictionary. Summersault is erroneous due to phonetics. Its like nite and night. Only one of them is correct but you still know what is meant.

Tickolas

Huh, Duckduckgo agrees. The panel has spoken!

Dave Barrack

Google said it was okay! Blame google!

Tickolas

Summersault? I reckon you mean somersault 😅

Ascender

Tall vehicles flip myltiple times surprisingly easily. In cross-section they are basically an oblong with two bouncy projections, so they roll acroacross the roof easily, then bounce when the tires catch, which slows their forward momentum in exchange for spin rate. I've seen plenty of small trucks and SUVs roll multiple times after spinning in a ditch at only 35mph. With a little dip in the terrain to help, a triple-roll isn't even stretching the odds.

Mark Magagna

She did say that the helicopter she was trapped under was on fire when she lost the leg...

Magraal

I can tell you *from experience* that even while doing 110km/h, swerving off the road into soft sand will only flip you about two-and-a-half times. I've got the photos to prove it.

JasonAW3

Yeah, I'm PRETTY sure Peggy doesn't get hit by the truck...

JasonAW3

Yeah, and if memory serves, they were a bit further apart than 40 feet, but I suspect she was using that blasted American ammo. I hear that some manufactures in the US make it hot out of the tube... And some US manufacturers, make such "defective rpg7 ammo", it detonated when you pull the trigger. Always a party favor favorite to leave around where terrorists can find a couple of boxes...

fiun dagner

Don't forget the part where they left it under water for a wee bit

JasonAW3

They dropped it, riding a skyscraper down with it... I almost suspect that, if they dropped the building ON it, they could have STILL drove it off... After unburying it first of course...

JasonAW3

Considering what the Three did to that one truck on Top Gear? Probably gonna need a sledge hammer for the dents and some new windows, but afterwards? Yeah should buff out fine...

Stephen Gilberg

I thought of the "Flashdance" song first.

Andy Liss

OMG It's obvious a tiny piece of shrapnel hit near the gas tank and it exploded flipping the truck!!! I mean it is written in the USA, and everyone knows cars explode when the gas tank sees a bullet or in this case a bit from the RPG

You_With_The_Face

It's a HiLux, that'll buff out

fiun dagner

I'm not saying I've ever done it, but it is surprisingly easy to disarm that launch safety so that it's live straight out of the barrel. It may or may not be a popular modification for short-range engagement against armored vehicles in say an urban environment

codesurfer

especially for a hilox. Top Gear couldn't kill one

Opus the Poet

Yes they did, and the RPG did not have enough explosive to even slow the SUV down, but the shaped charge did punch a neat little hole through the engine.

Opus the Poet

I think Mythbusters had genuine Soviet ammo for their experiments, apparently non-Soviet ammo can go off closer to the launcher. I wouldn't know the only Warsaw Pact weapons I got to fire in training were AKs.

Teksura

I only see one hand on that wheel. I would have assumed his other hand was holding the bottom of the wheel.

Michael Obert

Poor Peggy can't even get her slow walking away from the explosion moment.

Matthew Dodgen

Not sure, but they definitely did a shoot the rpg out of the air thing and learned it won't explode till it's like 40 ft from the launcher as it doesn't arm until then.

fiun dagner

It's a toyota. A little bit of somersault damage just adds to the vehicle's character and increases the resale value.

Wings of Genesis

Im not sure but didn't Mythbuster try a car flipping thing?
