Spell Absorbtion can only be used if you are the target of the spell, so AOE spells like fireball cannot really be absorbed, because they target a point in an area but not a specific creature. However if you were targeted by a spell that targets multiple creatures (Hold Person on higher levels for example) only you yourself would not be subjected to the effect on a successful absorbtion, other creatures that are targeted by the spell would still be affected. If a spell is an AOE and still targets you (Ice Knife for example) creatures around you would still be hit by the AOE.

Curious as to how this would work if the item user was hit by something like fireball (AoE spell). If it’s absorbed, would it prevent damage to everyone or just the item user?
