That tartan bias cut oversized dress might be a historical reference to sideless surcoats from the gothic age. In German the Open side is called Höllenfenster (hells window) or teufelsfenster (devils window) because it reveals the body or lacing underneath the surcoat. The church (ofc) gave those names bc a women’s body should be fully covered at that time. Thought that might be worth a share
