Okay, I'm back.
🕑 Added 2022-05-14 14:35:34 +0000 UTCI've returned from France, sorted things out and I'm back to work. I've got some photos, which I'll post at some point, but I want to get the next map done first.
The spelljammer vote has ended and there are two maps in the lead: the Whaleship and the Great Bombard. Instead of having a runoff, I'm just going to draw them both. Since the Whaleship is slightly ahead, I'll draw it first. I might wait until the Black Loch is done to tackle the Great Bombard, but I'll draw it too.
Since the Great Bombard looks a lot like a seafaring ship, I'll make a naval version for the people who don't need to take it to space. You don't have to play Spelljammer to have a use for a ship wrapped around a giant Death Star cannon.
My trip to France was excellent and I thought I'd mention a few things for anyone who might be thinking about going to Normandy or Brittany.
- If you go to Mont-St-Michel, get a hotel on the island. Your room will look like it cost 50 euros, but it will actually cost three times that. You will feel ripped off, but you weren't. Here's the thing: parking for Mont-St-Michel is 2km away and there's a shuttle that goes back and forth to the island. The last shuttle leaves at 8pm. Once it's gone, go outside and wander around. The shops are closed, 95% of the people are gone and the place is remarkably quiet and peaceful. Experiencing the island that way is amazing and it's what you get for the price of the room.
- Tourism in Rouen is easy. Go to the center of the city and walk in any direction. Wherever you go, it's beautiful. If it stops being beautiful, turn around, walk two streets over and head back. You may think you're going in circles because you saw that insanely ornate cathedral earlier. No, that's a different one. Rouen is littered with them.
- If you see a big clock hanging over the street in Rouen, go to the bar underneath it. It is everything you want a bar in France to be. They have a Belgian beer called Delirium. If you're unfamiliar with Belgian beer, buckle up.
- Cheese pizza in France is a lot better than cheese pizza anywhere else.
- They don't have coffee makers or kettles in most hotels in France. If you need 3 cups of coffee to make your brain turn on in the morning, bring an electric kettle and a French press.

The Alhambra is really amazing too. I was there a few years ago and I'd definitely recommend it. I'd suggest not going in the summer like I did, though. July in the south of Spain is no joke.

The whole trip sounds amazing, and welcome back! Mont-St-Michel is definitely on my short list of Civ Wonders to visit, somewhere a little after the Alhambra. And I mean, being surrounded by good food and drink is always a big draw. Though as a former New Yorker I must take issue with your libelous pizza commentary.

I'm probably going to add a bit of a classy cruise ship vibe to it, like the Titanic or something along those lines. A lounge with a grand piano, a billiards room, maybe even a pool. I think it'd work pretty well for a Murder on the Cetacean Express.

Sooooo excited for this whaleship! Have wanted to use one for awhile and having a nice, crispy map from my favorite map maker gives me a incredible good reason to put one in. Always thought a whaleship could make a potentially awesome setting for a murder mystery π€
