The Vagabond Queen - Spelljammer Version
🕑 Added 2024-01-01 03:09:33 +0000 UTCExplaining Spelljammer to people can be a little difficult. I posted a spelljammer map to Reddit once and someone commented that it was a completely unrealistic spacecraft. He pointed out that there was no engine, no fuel tanks and no airlock. He also thought there should be toilets next to all the passenger cabins. These are legitimate complaints if you think this is meant for a sci-fi setting, but that's not what Spelljammer is.
So I explained it to him. The ship doesn't have an engine because the engine is a magic chair. There are no fuel tanks because the fuel is magic spells. You don't need an airlock because the magic chair creates an air bubble around the ship. You can open the windows, it's fine. And toilets by the cabins are a problem because Spelljammer is a setting in which space travel was invented before indoor plumbing. So the bathrooms are just open pits of raw sewage, which no one wants to sleep next to.
I'm not sure whether the explanation helped or just left him more confused. Spelljammer does make sense, but it's also completely insane. Maybe that's part of the appeal, though.
In any case, here's another big, wooden spaceship with no engine to add to your collection. May she serve you well.

The Flotilla has recently been spotted sailing to and from the Vodoni Hegemony's territories...very strange indeed, probably up to something shady!

It's like a battle between the horse-sized duck and the 100 duck-sized horses.

What's the Cobalt Flotilla up to these days?
Alfred Salmon
That or its friendly rival for PCs to dance between before choosing sides in an absurd mortal-engines-style settlement-v-settlement battle

I think the Cobalt Flotilla just found its flagship.
