PUBLIC LANDSCAPING...WITH NATIVE PLANTS
🕑 Added 2025-08-13 01:47:26 +0000 UTCI was stoked to be contacted by the municipal landscaping greenhouses for the city of Colorado Springs and invited to come check out the work they are doing growing native plants for all of the public property around Colorado Springs. I haven't encountered a publicly-funded native plant greenhouse or grow operation anywhere in the United States before. This video is about how this project started and how two guys were able to slowly move the public landscaping of this city away from lame horticultural annuals and more towards the native plants that evolved in the region over millions of years.

*And yeah, I totally get Seattle is absurd these days with tech and wealth inequality and all sorts of other things. But we also gots peoples who planting natives and trying to get to know their neighbors in the process.

Come to Seattle* Joey(!) and learn about the Green Seattle Partnership. The City of Seattle's Parks and Recreation Department funds efforts for volunteers to do restoration work on urban forests and meadows working with local native plant nurseries (like Oxbow) and the city's nursery+greenhouse. They are also offering stewards classes in native plant propagation. Plus, maybe Arthur Lee Jacobson could take you on a tour of plant communities along our rail yards. NYC Parks & Rec has one, "Greenbelt Native Plant Center", on Staten Island. We're trying to get more native plants in public spaces over here!!
