Georg, It looks to me like satellite 18120 passes over Jackson, MO on April 8th indeed from South to North, but also from West to East which would contradict what we saw in Destin's video. I have found two other satellites you might want to look into as possible options for what Destin saw: Satellite 35376 "CZ-4 DEB" Roughly at 189deg (az) and 50deg (el) at C3 time Satellite 46496 "ICEYE-X7" Roughly at 182deg (az) and 50deg(el) at C3 time

I develop all my film in my bathroom. I scan multiple ways as well as looking into modifying cameras from , really awesome engineers who have made amazing things so that we could bring back things such as Polaroids to the RZ 67 for example. I enjoyed your series that you did at the Kodak factory. I thought that was amazing and I am very impressed with your ability to get all of this done, especially on a piece of slide film, knowing how finicky they are. This video quite literally changed me from being one who thinks about supporting you to a real live supporter! 😀 I created a photo of a lunar eclipse sometime in the 1980's that shows the full moon rising at intervals of 15 minutes and getting darker as it climbs. Initial Data: Location: 37.43° N, -89.644° E (GMT -5) C3 time according to Nasa Eclipse Explorer: 2:02:30 PM Sun coordinates at C3: 209° azim, 57° elev Rough Satellite Flight Path estimated from footage: S → N Digging through a bunch of satellites on in-the-sky.org left me with a few satellites which met the requirements of: max. elevation >= 57° max elevation at 2:02:30 PM +- 1 min flight path S → N My best fit so far was “Cosmos 1859”, with: Sky coordinates: 206° azim, 57° elev at 2:02:40 PM flight path: SSW → NNE Calculating its GPS coordinates using Cosmos1859’s height (1440 km), your location and camera angles: 37.43° N - 818 km = 30° N -89.644° E - 453 km = -93.64° E → 30° N, -93,64° E Celestrak Data for Cosmos1859 interpreted by in-the-sky.org: → 31° N, -93° E This is close enough for me :D I think your satellite was “Cosmos 1859” (Norad Id: 18120), a russian satellite launched in 1987 It took a few hours but I had a lot of fun doing the research and I learned a lot about coordinates, time zones, satellite flight paths and eclipse mechanics. I think I say this for every video, but this is the most awesome one! :-) Seriously though, it is largely because of Smarter Every Day that I became so interested in solar eclipses in the first place, and I was lucky enough to see both the 2017 and 2024 ones in totality with my family, and being educated in advance for them! For all of us, it is one of our most amazing memories. I talked about trying to make a composite photo (not one shot!) to look like what you made, but unfortunately, my camera wasn't in focus enough to make it useful. Destin, your 2017 prep videos got me excited to see that eclipse, and it is one of a select few most cherished memories for me. I happen to live in the path of totality for this year's as well, and my wife and I organized the whole day with our homeschool co-op and some other loved ones. We used Dr. Telepun's excellent resources, and set up most of his stations for the 50 or so people who attended. It was another incredible experience, and this time we were able to share it with even more people, including young minds for whom we were able to direct their focus and explain what was happening, as well as to use the whole day to glorify God—Psalm 19 was stuck in my head the whole day! For our simpler aspirations, everything worked out flawlessly (I was particularly thrilled we got to see shadow bands this time!), and I'm sure this eclipse, too, will reside in my memory for the rest of my life. Thanks so much for doing all of this, and equipping the rest of us to see, understand, and wonder!

There are other hints that point to a satellite: * You have two of them, seemingly flying absolutely parallel, which would be very unlikely for bugs * The speed along its track looks very constant, which is also unlikely for a bug * Also, I would expect the light scatter to be less constant for a bug Are both of the satellites not in the database?

Pentax Digital Spotmeter. If you can find one modified by Zone VI, they have filters installed to compensate for the difference in sensitivity in different color bands. Unfortunately, Zone VI is no longer in operation.

Hi Destin, For those looking to try this "on the cheap", without spending mega bucks on a special camera... I was able to accomplish something similar (double, triple, or even more exposure) by pressing the rewind button on the bottom of the camera (the button used to disengage the manual winder so the film could be rolled back into the canister) while advancing the film lever on a manual-film-advancing (non built-in-auto-advancing-motor) camera. This had the effect of making my camera think the film was advanced, making it ready for the next shot... without the film actually advancing. This method I admit isn't perfect. If the film does move, even the slightest, during the advance, it will throw off the double (or more) exposure... But if you can practice many times beforehand, with the right camera (Mine was a Ricoh KR-10), it is doable. Giving this more thought, I suppose to make it more reliable, you could load the film into a 35mm camera, then use something like a "dark room bag" to open the camera and physically tape the film inside the camera to keep even the minute advances from happening... Just a thought... LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! - Jason

We flew in to Dallas, and the weather looked terrible, so we planned to get up early in the morning to chase a hole in the clouds. We drove most of the way to where they shot this, driving through Oklahoma and then up into Arkansas finally catching clear skies just as the eclipse started close to Mena, AR. Fully worth it.

Your 2017 eclipse shot inspired me to catch this one in Hot Springs Arkansas. My dad was a solar physicist for NOAA so I did my own photo experiment with his old broken Canon F1 and AE1. They're terribly distorted but satisfying... I can use them to diagnose and fix them someday. Thanks for the best experience of my life!

Yes, I considered using the film release button on the bottom, but my understanding is sometimes that could lightly shipped the film. There is a particular Nikon model that has a little lever for multi shot exposure but I don’t remember which model it is. Was it the F2?

As an "OLD SCHOOL" film photographer it was a pleasure to see the application of contemporary knowledge and old school tools to contemporary problem solving. I have in my portfolio numerous examples of time-lapse single frame photography. As a PS for future reference there are a couple of what used to be high end NIKON cameras that we could do this with in addition to the Mamyia you used. It was a good choice because it was medium format whereas the NIKON would have been 35mm. I am surprised though that either no one gave you the option or you ruled out the option of a digital back for the Mamiya, or a Hasselblad that would have created the same image with the same shooting sequence.

I have to admit that I have been unimpressed with an eclipse. I've "seen" several partials, but never a total. This year's eclipse was sorta cool in a way. I fell to peer pressure and built a little view box for my coworkers and we took it outside and looked as the "projection" in the box. Then I went back to work. Watching this video, I can't quite describe the emotion that I felt reflected as you described your excitement... geeking out if you will. Truth is that hearing your story on the trip, the suspense of getting the shot and the whole family getting involved was somehow more engaging for me. Oh, by the way. You're description of the light feeling "icky".... you put the word to the exact feeling I had that day, but just couldn't say it. Thank you.

Dustin, when I was in college years ago I really got into photography. Had my own darkroom, rolled my own film, etc. did stuff like your time lapse several times. My cameras were Nikon FS. I could pull the film rewind release and the film stayed put so I could recock the shutter without moving the film along. Used a shutter release to trip the shutter there fore very little shaking of the camera. Wish I could have been there when you were getting started to have given you some ideas.. John

See if you can get an account at https://www.space-track.org , they maintain the official unclassified, public DOD satellite catalog. Shouldn't be too hard to get an account and figure out which sat it was as long as it's not classified. Most of the catalog is publicly available.

congrats on the epic shot! My guess for the 2 objects are satellites from the recent SpaceX rideshare mission that launched on the 7th (11 satellites launched). Would explain why they are going in the same direction, but slightly different spacing as opposed to in a line like a starlink train. No idea which of the satellites they could be though unfortunately. No idea how to verify this unfortunately.
