Oh shit, Kai actually killed them all. And he cut off their heads! I wanted him to fight for himself, but I wasn't expecting him to be this ruthless. It's character development, with him still pushing for saving as many lives as possible while understanding that some heads have to roll, so he went for the head and killed several leaders instead of an entire army. But there's also a bit of a counterpoint there that does make me sad, in that I think Kai also simply became tired of negotiating with people who just *refuse* to budge. I think he was genuinely willing to cut a deal with the Quills, but when they also made it clear that they're just going to stab him in the back, I think he resigned himself into the role he put himself in and accepted the consequences. You can even see it during Feida's POV. I can picture Kai's sardonic smile when he asked her to find a manticore, knowing that he can just use his power to get her to fall in line. It's dirty, but hell, everyone around him has played dirty. There's a sense of defeat in that, I think, even if he turned it into a massive victory. Obviously, we've seen Kulha and Feida's ugly sides - the former being hotheaded and the latter being coldhearted. It's reflected perfectly in Kulha's raid on the vault and Feida's attack on the main camp. Still, I think my image of them has improved again, with both leaders actively trying to save who they can. You'd think they'd be too proud or self-interested, but for all their flaws, I do believe they're genuine leaders. I mean, now that we know the Quills had zero intentions of cutting a deal with Kai, it does put Kulha and Feida's willingness to set aside their differences and hire him in the first place under a better light than before. That's why they're the ones with the monstrous barbarian on their side, and not the Quills. I wasn't expecting ZZN and Omi! They're definitely there to observe the poisoner sub-factions of the Quills and find out more about Cloudspire poisons, and I'm guessing this is just a complete coincidence on the trio's part. But now Kai can put that mana ink to good use with his wives there! And more importantly, he can cry himself on their shoulders all he wants if the pressure is getting to him. What're the Manticores gonna do, tell him to toughen up? Sure, tell that to the wall of muscle. Looking forward to see how this Manticore subplot shakes out now that the trio is reunited!

God damn, Kulha saw the swans, but he can't be the frog to eat swan flesh. Those swans belong to the monster.
