Runcible Technician

That exit sentence is an invitation to disaster.

Also worth mentioning that for most people becoming the tribe patriarch would be a way to increase your strength not a limiter on it, as it gives you access to all the tribes resources and expertise. It is easy to forget that the main trio can really only progress this fast on their own thanks to there insane levels of talent. Zae nim is a prodigy cultivator, Omi is a genius alchemist that can output on the level of an entire tribe and even kai has monstrous hunger. Not to mention having the combined knowledge of Zae nim's sect, the great library, the frontier elites and the advanced ship Omi found

Great chapter, loved seeing kulhas' perspective on the hand off. Then i reached the end and just, ya really bout to flip the situation, ain'tcha?

Very fair point, but while Kai's monstrous strength is truly beyond easy ability to grasp, I was referring more to the many ways that the people he's formed a close bond with have helped him grow his strength. It doesn't feel like much of a reach to think that he might have learned cultivation from the cultivator he is in a committed relationship with, or chakra from the chakra user he is in a committed relationship with. Then again, with how much fear Cloudspire seems to have of mixing cultivation, it may be that they are uncertain how exactly Kai has all these different sorts of power without causing a chi deviation.

My bets are them going to the Southern Rivers. ZZN has had her breakthrough, now it's Omi's turn. Studying a region that specializes in fields adjacent to her own expertise should help her advance rapidly.

To be fair, the source/extent of Kai's strength is pretty inexplicable to ordinary people. Also, I think it's been implied that reaching the heights of cultivation is not something everyone can aspire to. If your dantian is puny, you might just be like Kai stuck with a shitty Class which won't lead anywhere in the long run. And most people don't have any idea that there might be paths or systems outside those well understood by the general public which could lead to even greater power. So most people might see reaching for power beyond their station as not simply risky, but quixotic.

I do like that Kulha deliberately avoided thinking about not only *why* Kai's wives are so loyal to him, but why Kai's so strong in the first place. I guess Kulha acknowledging to himself that he's voluntarily choosing to be weak because he's too afraid of the risks of reaching higher would be something of an existential crisis for the average Cloudspire person.
