Surrealialis

100% agree.

Rosemount had many flaws but Cloudspire is a 10x worse place to live. These people are the worst. I think I would prefer to live in Demon-run Traeton than anywhere in Cloudspire.

Hey guy, there's a chacter. Some prince sort(not in this chapter) but in the beginning when kai arrives at cloudspire. He was a shifty sort & very astute, I have been waiting for the inconvenience(to kai) but it's looking the story definitely grew beyond. A shame, cos I wasn't even expecting strength. Just wrong place, right time, devastating effect and maybe an annoying cliffhanger

IDK I think if anything the main cast is a demonstration of the power of Sky Souls. The trio have been able to cut through scores of Earth souls pretty effortlessly but everytime they have run into a sky soul it has caused problems. I think the main problem with cloudspire is how entrenched the people at the top are through both the hoarding of resources and use of artificial standards/morality to ensure only the approved rise in power. It means that the only thing that matters is getting strong, the only way to get strong is through nepotism and only you get to decide who get promoted. By contrast on rosemont if you don't promote competent people you will be overthrown by the guy who does and in the deadwaste you will just get eaten by monsters. Likewise on both continents we have seen people rise up against and destroy powers that are too oppressive. I think what the trio could offer is a sect/clan that promotes on merit and distributes resources based on need. That would give cultivators that are capable but not young masters a chance to advance as well as simultaneously forcing the major sects to start doing the same or be destroyed by their more competent opposition. Likewise while abuses of power would still happen, there would actually potentially be consequences to doing so as the Hul Ping's of the world actually have a way to hit back.

Oh, alliteration! I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it.

AnythingAtAll

Kai: "I'm sorry, my rebel friends. Your people were slaughtered to make their young masters immortal. A thousand good lives for one bottle." Redtree Rebels: "That's horrible! How do you make them tho." Fucking Cloudspire.

AnythingAtAll

There's *some* silver lining here. Deadwaste has an existential threat to rally against while Rosemount's power systems incentivize pursuing the 700-900 mid-tiers, but Cloudspire incentivizes the 1000+ high-tiers, and because that requires so much resources, cultivation practically guarantees power will be centralized to the few who are able to amass true power. In other words, although we can argue all day about political dynamics in the other continents, Cloudspire is almost exclusively about power. And cultivation has formations. We've seen Earth Souls take on people who are far stronger than any of them individually. For example, the Quills' formation could've defeated Kai if he hadn't poisoned them. I mean, yes, he slaughtered them indivudually, but eight Earth Souls being able to match someone who had twice their individual average Power is really not a bad deal. I think that a starting point for fixing Cloudspire's societal ills is for the trio to lead a sect/clan that emphasizes formations. They even have very good reason to do so, seeing as they'll be starting a war with the continent's top organizations. They're definitely not acquiring any Sky Souls anytime soon, and they need an army first and foremost. Essentially, they'll be decentralizing power from a bunch of kings to a coalition of Earth Souls. Perhaps in several generations, the Nascents can have a say. And so on, and so on. This'll of course require the backing of some incredibly powerful people so the sect/clan is not completely slaughtered while they're still growing in strength. But the trio is already some of the most powerful people in the world, much less Cloudspire. If they can successfuly foster this kind of organization, well beyond their stay in the continent or even Detriton, they can introduce a new kind of power to cultivation land, one that is at least not completely guaranteed to devolve to an unchecked dictatorship, and one that other organizations absolutely won't mess with, lest they draw the wrath of the soon-to-be undisputed most powerful people in the world.

Arramos

Man, I can feel just how over Cloudspire Kai is. These cultivators bow and scrape to anyone stronger than they are, but it's pretty clear that if the shoe was on the other foot they would behave just like the arrogant and abusive shitlords the Virgins have been fighting against. It's not just that they're selfish, but that they're so dishonest about it. Kai puts a lot of effort into making the world a better place than he found it, but here he's just trading one societal problem for more of the same problem, and it's scraping him raw. I can't fault him, I have no clue where anyone could begin fixing this mess. How do societies even function with such spineless, pathetic, and self centered people pervading?
