A winter channel update!
🕑 Added 2024-07-16 07:40:44 +0000 UTCHi everyone, it's a very cold wet week here in Melbourne! Here's a random photo I took a couple of weeks ago in similar conditions, of K153 climbing out of Upper Ferntree Gully hauling the 4 car Tait on a Ringwood-Belgrave shuttle. I spent most of the day out in the weather and had to do some systematic drying out of camera gear later on!
I'm expecting a bit of a gap before the next video - I haven't got much done over the past fortnight due to one of my kids having some surgery (tonsils & adenoids out - fairly routine, but quite a long recovery), so I've obviously been focusing on that, and had several nights of very little sleep.
On the other hand - over the past couple of days I've had a chance to get stuck into it again, and am pleased to say the Werribee/Williamstown line video is coming along quite rapidly. I started writing it two months ago, and today have finished the basic bones of the script - I've got to the end of the line geographically, and next will be going back through and filling out more details. Often if there's something I need to research I just skip past it and type something like [remember to come back to this]. Then the process will start of working out what images and footage I have already (quite a bit I hope) and what I need to go out and get. It's very hard to say how far off the final product will be, but it's certainly progressing a LOT faster than the previous two in this series. Also, despite not being yet complete, the script already has a higher word count than either of the previous two, so I fully expect this video to be closer to an hour in length.
Finally, I'm sure most of you know who Tom Scott is - British youtuber of some 6.4 million subscribers. Tom has a weekly email newsletter (which wouldn't go to all 6.4m, but it must still be quite a lot), in which he has a segment 'What have I found on youtube this week?' Well, last week the 'thing he had found on youtube' was my Broadmeadows runaway video, and he wrote a paragraph complimenting the video, especially the extensive use of my own imagery. The video had a noticeable spike in views that day of around 2,500 above what it would normally get, and it was certainly very nice to know that it had caught the eye of someone like Tom!
Thank you as always for your ongoing support, the increasing number of people signing up here is really what's keeping this channel viable, and it's a huge encouragement to continue putting the effort in to these videos.

While the video Tom Scott linked wasn't the first of yours that i watched (the first being the wooden trestle story) it was the impetus for me to finally subscribe to both YouTube and Patreon as i saw you were continuing the descriptive talking vids and such. Witch i surely enjoy. I can't wait to learn more about Melbourne's (and the rest of Australia's) transit from you! as im far more familiar with Europe's railways and those of my own region (the north east corridor of the USA. I hope your kid's tonsil recovery goes well!

That is incredible! I can't believe you got spotted by Tom Scott. Well, as I once told you, your Broadmeadows video is one of my favourite videos ever made on YouTube, so I believe your recognition is very well deserved!

Sending all my best wishes out the little one and hoping the recovery is smooth and not too long. Your content is always top notch and amazing. Even leagues above some others who may have a higher number of followers/subscribers. We are all so passionate about our home towns and cities and love to see content on them and about them. It's that nice and warm "butterflies in the tummy" feeling! On another note, I, myself also took a couple photos and videos of K153 and the Tait rolling through from Ringwood to Belgrave and return. :) Much love, mate and keep doing what you're doing. We all love to see it!

Re your last sentence. The level of detail and excellence in your videos is beyond that of creators 100x your size. It doesn't suprise me at all that your patreon has continued to grow, as it should given how good your content is. Keep up the good work!, What do you think will come first, A million subs or complete catalogue of Melbourne train line videos ahah

thanks for the update! hoping the bub has a speedy recovery (tonsil-related issues are not fun, to say the least!) it's been a difficult last week mentally, what with a lot of the world crumbling before our very eyes, so even the news that the W/W video might be ~an hour long is an extremely welcome bit of excellent news! thank you again for your content. really is a safe haven of wholesome content that i'm sure a lot of us come to for a bit of nerdy respite! -C 🤙🏼

I am really looking forward to the Werribee/Williamstown line video. The others have been some of my favourites. And thank you for the process explaination. And how fun Tom Scott found your video. I normally read his e-mails, but this one skipped right by me. Thanks for the update and hope your kid is doing better with a quick recovery and more sleep for dad!
