He doesn't change - he's like that alla time. Calling him wolfman, wolfboy, werewolf, and stuff like that is actually insulting - like calling a human apeboy, monkey-man, or something. (He doesn't mind when *you* say it, because he knows you're not being insulting). He is a caniform alien - a Canid. That means that his species descended from dog-like or wolf-like creatures somewhat they way humans descended from ape-like creatures - called Hominids.
