I've been reading about the English revolts against the increasing use of factories in the manufacture of cloth and clothing (the so-called Luddite movement). It strikes me that cloth manufacturing was England's main industry and that the English sanctions against importation of cloth and silk were causing extreme hardship in the heartland. I know that counterfactuals are challenging, but I can't help but wonder if things wouldn't have been very much better for the UK economy and people had they simply not fought against the Continental System.

hello, I actually have one question.... you mentioned many times of the excrutiating surgeries and amputations which were completed withiut any anesthetic or painkiller. However, as I understand, europeans have already known about opium during the napoleonic times. So I am wondering, did any military or civilian surgeons used it, for its painkilling or sedation properties?
