That’s what it means. It’s best to think about this world like someplace in the medieval period. People are considered adults much sooner.

BZD

We saw his soul, he is an eldritch horror. Literally he’s a soul from another dimension that latched onto the dying soul of the original Liu Feng. Remember how that cultivator in a Penny reacted to seeing him.

LAG

The Calamity is essentially like some type of retaliation from the Heavens towards Immortals (I’m not too sure about the exact details on it) so I am guessing the explosion to be an Immortal level attack at the least. Not saying that San couldn’t live somehow but since he was caught in the radius I’m putting his chances of survival at very low. After all the Sect Leader is probably the strongest character we encountered so far and even he opted towards getting as far away as possible rather than trying to tank it to preserve the sect.

Green0Photon

Thank you for the correction. It's been too long since the original run of the story. I need to do a reread. Are we actually sure that Song San is dead? It seemed like things were setting him up, and it's quite possible he either figured out how to survive, or that the Sect Leader saved him because it would be interesting. (Unless he caused the thing to deliberately kill Song San.) Though, thing is that the Sect Leader wanted interesting people to fight, and was frustrated that Song Song was being held back. So it's unclear to me what exactly happened, but either he survived because he's a clever mfer and it's interesting for that to happen to have a future enemy, or he died to show something more with the explosion. Idk. Xin Ma and Granny both make sense to have died. In fact, from a Doylist perspective, they actually make sense to die. And had death flags as is.

LAG

Just cutting in to say that Ye An (ice girl) is not dead as far as we know, although she did kill the Heaven’s Favored Hu Jin (red haired d-bag). Also I wouldn’t really put it past the author to randomly kill off Fu Yating as plenty of other semi-important characters are dead already; Xin Ma (librarian sensei), Song San(Song^2 brother), the Granny, heck honestly that nice girl that MC saved back in the forest and her overbearing father are also probably dead unless they were randomly outside the Sect.

I think that's one of LF's biggest character flaws. His borderline-paranoid caution and over analysis of things often paralyzes him or makes him vastly overestimate opponents. Which can make his monologues tedious, sure, but I think they're also kinda funny and lend themselves to his character. LF ain't normal, but he just doesn't realize it.

Bereftreader

I like this character development, but conversely, I'm a firm supporter of song song as the fml. I do like fy's character though,

Thanks for the chapter!

I feel Like he's treating FY as some centuries old scheming powerhouse when it kinda seems like shes just a scared teenager who was betrayed by her family, which was subsequently wiped out. forest for the trees and all that

Green0Photon

>> But FY seems like a minor plot point > Says this in an arc where she's clearly the one main character besides LF Bruh. After leaving the sect, this whole arc has been centered around her and their relationship. Moreover, from a Doylist perspective, didn't we already have what's her name die? That ice girl. So it's pretty unlikely we'll also have FY die.

SirWins

I don’t see it. I can see her even dying tbh. Liu Feng definitely feels pity for her. But yating seems like a character that will be a minor plot point then a major one imo.

Green0Photon

On one hand yeah, but on the other hand, like c'mon. For all how good of a manipulator and person who just wants power, she's a human being whose whole family got slaughtered. LF would be pissed if it was reversed, in particular if it were his parents and WY. Likewise, just because FY cares less and is able to survive people being shitty, doesn't mean she's completely unaffected. In fact, we know that she's not infallible and this flat personality because of how she messed up in accidentally revealing herself to LF with the flesh mask, and how she actually kinda had a crush on him in a bit of a yandere way with how she needs to feel superior. This story is always more interesting in how it goes beyond characters just being one dimensional. See: Song Song, for example. Yeah, in some ways she's the memetic serial killer that's in a lot of Xianxia. But also, she's had everyone try to kill her her entire life, and a lot of it is an act to protect herself. And possibly something demonic that's happened to her in the past. It's so much more fun that she's a part of the team and someone to rely on. Likewise with FY and LF. Things feel like they're reaching a head where the dynamic has to change. Character growth. Quite possibly LF realizing how arrogant he's been recently in taunting FY, about not antagonizing someone above your level. LF has quite literally set himself up as the villain in a classic Xianxia where a woman's family is slaughtered and she's made to be the husband of the handsome but evil guy, and it's only through her cleverness that she's able to get out of it. Classic classic classic. We're just looking at it from the other end, and we have LF not realizing that he's ended up in another cliche, like he's lost his previous genre savvy that has kept him alive for this long. I'm pretty damned sure she's going to do something that will snap him out of it, and cause them to grow closer together. Possibly also something with the fam hurting FY.

SirWins

Now does it really affect her or is she playing the game? Liu fengs smart and won’t get duped. I really wonder how mouse deals with midting is she killed to developma tragic situation. She is clearly more on the less useful side for liu feng. Feng is clearly bored. Learning acting from her? Let’s be real here, Liu feng is smart and best way to learn scheming is through pressure and real experience. Not some 17 year olds acting lessons lol if that was the case everyone would be a good actor.

SirWins

It’s all an act dawg. Fu midting is trying to play the game good thing our boi liu feng isn’t one to get manipulated easily.

Mohamud Mohamed

Im pretty sure that whatever you think is going on with Fu Yating, she is never as inoccent as you believe. Also, LF is bored, and only saved FY on a whim, not because he cared about her, but because he was tickled pink when he managed to force his clan to back off. Song Song has influeneced him that way i suppose. Therefore, whatever tension you believe exists, is probably only on FY side.

StarBat

.... You know. For a logical cultivator person. LF has forgotten how normal people function. None of them are that old. He on the other hand is worse than an eldritch horror with how detached he is.

Heara17

Thanks for the chapter!

Gardor

"A man your age in the kitchen? What are you, a cook?" she shot back with a teasing grin -> what does this even mean? Young boys can cook, but older men can only cook if they specifically WORK as a cook? “How about we leave work talk for outside the dinner table,” I suggested. It wasn’t like I enjoyed watching Fu Yating squirm" -> he mentions this a couple times, he should have thought about that before the first thing he said to his grandpa being "how'd the war go?".

Green0Photon

Omg poor FY. And holy crap this dick ass grampa. I feel like there has been tension growing with FY and LF's relationship and I really hope it comes to a head soon where they actually properly align soon. LF feels lonely but he doesn't realize it, and FY is of course also super lonely. It's really sad and it's hard to bear
