Having Lara fetch her some casefiles had been a blast for Tina. Successfully using Ms. Baker’s commands to make Lara do her bidding just gave her such a rush. Was it wrong? No doubt about that, it was just too much fun to stop now and if anyone ever deserved it than that surely was Lara. She could barely wait to order Lara around, yet she did wait until lunch to disturb Lara once more.
Her sandwich in hand she entered Lara’s office without knocking and took place in one of the comfortable chairs across her desk usually reserved for clients. With all the big money clients Lara handled these were some of the most comfortable chairs in the entire building. “Hey Lara, I hope you don’t mind me grabbing my lunch here? It’s just way quieter in here as the breakroom is always overcrowded and you have to be pretty lucky to find a free chair even.” Tina explained casually. It was a lie, but there was no way Lara knew.
“Uh… Oh no, please go ahead. These chairs aren’t used over lunchbreaks anyways. I mean not most of the days that is. You know how some clients can be. If it’s free then by all mean feel free to make use of them.” Lara said after briefly zoning out. Tina could also swear that the smile Lara gave her had a slight flirty undertone. She would need to be careful with that. Earlier in the elevator it had been fun to test Ms. Baker’s theory but flirting with Lara was a rabbit hole she didn’t want to go down.
Keeping a straight face in order not to reciprocate Lara’s light flirting and hopefully put an end to it Tina said. “Thank you so much Lara. You’re the best. I think I’ll take you up on that offer.” She said before digging into her sandwich. Inwardly Lara groaned though. The last person she wanted to spend her lunchbreaks with was Tina. Especially after what she had asked of her this morning. Still she didn’t dare tell off her superior that and Tina’s praise gave her a rush of accomplishment. “… Okay, just don’t mind me. I’m running a bit behind on schedule and still need to get the last of this case preparation for this afternoon out of the way.” Lara said as a hidden hint for Tina to leave her alone, but the woman just kept eating her sandwich. Tina just smirked as she kept on eating. This was the best thing ever. Lara had yet again zoned out. Well it needs to be sent out again and I was wondering if you could take it to the post office. You know how they exchange the incoming and outgoing parcel’s at 8:30? Well if you rush you might be able to get it taken along today. I would be very grateful.” Tina said smirking at the thought of making this a daily occurrence, making Lara run errands for her. It should further attack Lara’s reputation as being the upper bitch in the office. Getting her to run one errand was an anomaly, but if she got Lara to do it again and again it would be a pattern.
Lara was stunned by Tina’s nerve, she held a way higher position than Tina in this office. Yesterday she had felt nice, but she didn’t want to make this a regular thing. “Uhm okay sure, I’ll try to get it to the post office ass soon as I possibly can.” Lara answered as she followed Tina to her cubicle at a brisk pace, trying to fetch the file as fast as possible so she could quickly deliver it as well. With the post leaving at about 8:30 this was a very pressing matter. Tina should have taken this to the internal post yesterday before leaving, but Lara didn’t dare point it out in order not to insult her.
The cubicles were still mostly empty as the lawyers here mainly worked nine to five. There were some who liked to come in earlier and leave a little earlier though so there were definitely people there, people who instantly turned their eyes to Tina and Lara as the loud clacking of two pairs of heels approached. They were very surprised to see Lara out here again.
“So Lara, please take this file to the post immediately and try to hurry a little. I really want it out today. Thank you so much for doing this. I know it’s a bother but it’s important. “Great, I’ll do it right away.” Lara said short and direct after zoning out for a small moment. It was clear that she took the hurry to heart as she didn’t lose any time with forming a long reply, or as everyone was expecting subjecting Tina to a furious rant that would leave her shaking all day long. Instead she walked off at a pace as fast as her heels could carry her.
Everyone was stunned. The same people who had witnessed the strange scene yesterday now witnessed this and they simply couldn’t wrap their minds around what was happening. They couldn’t wrap their head around why Lara was putting up with Tina’s fetching jobs, jobs they wouldn’t even ask of a direct co-worker, let alone a higher up lawyer. Robin a short round brunette in the cubicle behind Tina rolled her chair back and spun around to face her while she still stood up to watch Lara go with a smirk. “Hey Tina, what’s up with you and Lara I mean how? Why? Aren’t you scared for your job or at least a rant?” The woman asked completely flabbergasted obviously looking for some gossip.
Tina just shrugged. “I don’t know. I think Ms. upper bitch has changed. We came up in the elevator together and I complained that I forgot to take that file to the post yesterday evening and would you know she actually offered to do it for me. I mean both the cubicles and the post office are only a slight deviation from the route to her office so I guess it isn’t that much trouble. Maybe she has just figured out she needs us as well.” Tina explained changing the narrative a little from how it had actually gone down. She couldn’t let people know what was really going on.
“Huh, still it’s strange Lara just doesn’t seem the type to be nice and definitely not the type to change.” Robin noted still left with a lot of questions about what was happening but Tina didn’t look like she had any more answers than what she had given so she just shrugged her shoulders and went back to work.
While Tina could start her work Lara hurried her way over to the post office. Yesterday it had been empty and she had to rummage through the files to find what she was looking for. Everyone remained silent for a good minute, not believing what they had seen.
