Yea Damon and Stefan's mom is really messed up. It's heartbreaking to see Stefan try so hard to get his mother to be the mother they knew, to get her to love them again because he has missed her so much and she just doesn't even wanna try. I would definitely be more like Damon in this situation and just not even care. I was never a real fan of the cure storyline, even when it was introduced back in S4 because I felt like it was a cop out if that makes sense so when they brought it back in this season I was heavily annoyed and even more annoyed that they made it Damon and Elena's central conflict once again in the last episodes of this season, the only good thing to come of it was now that Elena is human we now know once and for all that whether Human or a Vampire, Elena loves Damon.

Btw the process for Damon taking the cure has always existed. Remember in season 5 Silas was hunting Katherine so he could take the cure from her blood stream. Eventually he did and that’s how Katherine started ageing rapidly while Silas became human. Then Amara took the blood from Silas’ blood stream. The cure remains in you all the time.
