Hello Alex, What a wonderful post. Thank you so much for sharing. You are living the dream. It's great that you are doing something that you love, and have someone to share it with. That's what makes living worth while. Roger and I just celebrated our 32 years anniversary. We just got a new Bernese Mt. Dog puppy. He is now 5 month old. We are doing well and I enjoy your work very much. Please keep it up and keep sharing your adventures. It's very much appreciated.

This is a wonderful post!! Man I love this.

What a wonderful update! So glad to get this glimpse into your year and into what’s coming up. Big hugs!!!

Alex Woolfson

Hi, Adam! I’m glad you found the post rewarding, and I really appreciate all your wonderful support. (And, just for the record, you’ve been supporting me from the very first year I launched my Patreon, 2015!) And thank you for sharing a bit about what’s been going on with you, too! That’s awesome to hear about you moving in with your girlfriend (and getting to enjoy a bit of parenting!) And yay to becoming a VP of the board of your summer choir! Both are big milestones! Sorry to hear about the broken leg, though. (I hope you’re fully recovered now!) And it sounds like your friends are lucky to have you in their lives. Here’s to new adventures and remaining thankful! And another great year as well! Thank you again, Adam! :)

Elliott, I was thinking the exact same thing!!!

Alex, what a great post! While this is is not an expectation of any kind, it is a very rewarding update. I can only speak for myself but I love that I am supporting both your art and, well, making your life better in general. I've forgotten exactly how many years it has been but I am so happy I chose to sign up for Patreon when you first offered this lo those many years ago. Three cheers to an adventurous honeymoon and I'm thrilled at all the YP ideas you have planned and coming down the pipe. I hope this post gets a lot of us sharing, which looks like it has, since the sharing shouldn't be one way. We're a community! The past year has been so full for me. I broke my leg a year ago. I moved in with my girlfriend and am now pseudo-parent to two teenagers - after never having kids before - but things are super great. I became VP of the board for a summer choir I sing in and find contributing in this way just as fulfilling as the singing, even more so. Otherwise, supporting some friends who are in a rough place and planning adventures with others keeps me incredibly busy. I feel lucky to be able to disappear into a book for 15-20 minutes every night before bed. I feel very thankful for where I am, even when challenges arise. Here's to another great year for us both!

Alex Woolfson

You’re very welcome, Adam! I’m glad you liked the update. :)

You're welcome!

Adam Wagner

Appreciate the openness and update - thank you for sharing :)

Alex Woolfson

Thank you, Pyr! I’m glad you think so! :)

Alex Woolfson

You’re very welcome, ripping! And thank you!

Alex Woolfson

Thank you, Passthecass! I’m really glad you liked the post. (And I also agree with you about finding balance in terms of work and life.) That’s cool that you were a travel advisor. I bet that was so much fun. I’m glad you’ve got some cool trips planned. When you get closer to the dates, I’d love to hear more about them. I love travel stories, too. :)

Alex Woolfson

Thank you, QueBijoux! It’s good to know you’d like to see more posts like this. :) I’d definitely recommend a trip to Venice for you and your husband! (During shoulder season — I can’t imagine what the crowds would be like in those narrow streets during the summer!) And take a look at Al Ponte Antico on TripAdvisor. Honestly, other than the general romance of the City, that hotel and its staff were the big highlight for us in Venice. If you start making plans, let me know. I’d love to hear about them.

Pyr

This is wonderful

Thank you for the update! I'm glad you had a great honeymoon! And your mom's new place looks nice. That's an amazing amount of work!

Passthecass

What a lovely post! Thanks so much for sharing all this with us. While as a fan I've always appreciated your work ethic (a surprise novel?! on top of everything else you're balancing? astounding in the best way), it's extremely nice to know that you're also taking the time to take care of yourself and your family and enjoy life ^_^ Work is important but so is spending time with the people we love. I absolutely adore the travel photos! Before COVID threw a wrench in things I worked as a travel advisor (I hope to get back into the industry before my skills get too rusty, lol), so I just eat up travel stories. All my recent journeys have been to visit friends and family, but I'm planning a big West coast trip for next year and hopefully an eventual trip to Denmark

QueBijoux

What a wonderful post! It feels like we know you a bit through your writing, so it is always fun to read about your actual life outside the comics. Please do share more, including pictures of your Napa Valley trip. It's been years since I was there on a wine tasting tour. Such fun! Your picture in the Colosseum brought back memories of my own trip to Rome and standing there, taking in the grandeur with one of my best friends. Now that I'm married, a romantic trip to Venice -- particularly after seeing it in movies like The Wings of the Dove and The Lost Moment (Spider-Man and its sea monster didn't do it for me!) -- has a certain appeal. It's great news that your mother is closer and you can see her more often. That's something we struggle with as we and our parents age. It's good that you have a such a good relationship with her. That's heartwarming!

Alex Woolfson

I’m glad you enjoyed the post, Jeff! The honeymoon really was a dream come true. Thank you for your kind words and for letting me know you’d like to see more posts like this! I hope you’re also having a great year. :)

Alex Woolfson

You’re very welcome, Jeremy! And it’s good to know you’d like to see more posts like this. Congratulations on buying your first home! That’s super exciting! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do myself, and I bet it’s bringing you a lot of happiness. And I’m glad you’re looking forward to the Dossier and future comic pages. I can’t wait to share them with you!

Alex Woolfson

You’re very welcome, Elliott! I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed the read! (And thank you for the congrats!) Yes, the 35,000 words was indeed a surprise. I guess I’m learning what I’m like when I switch from comics scripts to prose writing! :)

Alex Woolfson

Hi, Bakari! I’m really glad to hear you enjoyed the post! And that you had your own awesome adventure in Italy! Yes, while I think it’s good to have a bunch of unscheduled days when traveling, just to have a chance to follow your own heart, I definitely recommend planning a few adventures as well. For me, that means food tours (especially “off the beaten track” into non-touristy areas) and bike tours. But there are lots of options. TripAdvisor has been my friend here, but I also hear good things about AirBNB Experiences. Thank you very much for the good wishes about me and my Mom. I definitely feel I breathe a bit easier. And I’m glad that you’re looking forward to that Kickstarter. So am I! I really appreciate all the support you’ve been giving me, and it would be wonderful to send the new books your way. Thank you again for your kind words and for letting me know you enjoy this kind of post. I really appreciate it! Cheers to you and your family, too. :)

Alex Woolfson

Thank you, Klaus! There have been a few harder things that I didn’t get into, but overall, I’m doing well. And I have a lot to be grateful for. Especially the support of awesome readers like yourself. I hope you’re also having a great year! :)

Jeff Harrison

Thanks for sharing, Alex! So nice to get to know you and Fernando better! Your Honeymoon looks like a dream come true! So happy you found the care you need for your mother and it’s close enough for frequent visits. Looking forward to more posts like this with pictures! 😊

Jeremy P

Thank you for this post, Alex! 🥰🥲 I would love more like this, whenever you feel comfortable sharing. Since you asked (😁), my biggest change during the last 12 months has been moving back from the Bay Area to the East Coast and buying my first (and, honestly, hopefully last) home. I'm now back in Providence, which is where I first discovered you and "The Young Protectors." Looking forward to the Dossier and many more comic pages to come!

Elliott

That was lovely to read, big congratulations on your wedding & honeymoon! Thank you for sharing. :) (Also, surprise 35,000 words?! That’s Brandon Sanderson levels of “oops I accidentally a book” 🤣)

Bakari Andrews

Alex - first and foremost, I'm so happy to read about your honeymoon and I'm so glad that you were able to have such an indulgent, romantic time in such a beautiful country! I actually took my first international trip last fall and I went to Italy and I had an amazing time. Your post has inspired me to go a bit more off the beaten track the next time I go though - the Bikes and Bites tour sounds amazing! Also, I'm happy that you have your mom closer and that she is in a better facility! That must be a weight off your shoulders and I hope you can breathe a little easier now. Lastly, so excited to hear both about the Dossier ANDDD the potential opportunity to be a part of a future Kickstarter campaign! I could gush on and on about how much I love your work, but I was a little late to the party so it would be AH-mazing to get in on the ground floor of your next big thing! In closing, it was nice to hear more about you and your personal life. The pictures were amazing - you and Fernando look so happy together! Plus it was generous and kind of you to share your mom and a portion of her story with us. I hope your life continues to be filled with more wonderful moments that will turn into lifelong memories. Thanks again for sharing your world with us, once again! :) Cheers to you and your family!

Klaus

Thanks for sharing this. I am glad you had a great honeymoon, and that you have only good news.
