Weekly Report 26/05/23

First of all, I want to let you know that I will be going away on holiday from 3rd to the 10th of June. I didn't manage to get away anywhere last year, so I'm looking forward to a change of scenery. As a result, I won't be posting a weekly report during that week , but I will try to post a wallpaper or something instead so you don't forget about me while I'm gone.
On to this week, I completed the three teaser images for v0.14, and I have also written the story for it. However, I won't be focusing on creating new content for v0.14 for some time now as I concentrate on fixing existing issues and reworking a few things.
One of those issues is the lack of choices in recent updates. Over time, the number of player choices has gradually decreased, transforming the experience into more of a kinetic novel. Therefore, for the remainder of this week, I've been working to add more choices where they are lacking and to make them meaningful.

for this one i was screaming LET HER KNOW (about Steve/Lucy) -- also when sitting on the bench next to the pool, the option to HINT that the MC knows that Charlotte met Steve, (her being in a great mode maybe a Joke type option, "make a joke about getting hanging out a bar later, i know a guy that your sister would love" +1 point for Charlotte or "no Joke" --- or if you are on the Lucy path have it be "I'll ask my girlfriend about dinner."+1 for lucy or "I'm not ready for that yet" also an option to have Emma tell Jenny about her dream of the MC

i know 2 perfect places for a choices - both of these location i was screaming at the game for the first one i was screaming KISS HER - in the limo, when the MC is holding Charlotte's hands to warm them up, and she thinks to herself "a great evening" and he asks about stopping holding her and she said "no" ----- MC option KISS HER or NOT to KISS HER with the OPTION of on the cheek (like she has with him +1 point for charlotte), or forehead (like with Emma, that she has seen - no "+" point as she knows this is his "Just friends" kiss)

I don't think lack of player choice _per episode_ is a problem per se, Blue. There are at least two very distinctive branches in your game at the moment, which the player can choose... it looks to me like you're setting up further branching as well -- at least with your LIs. Your last episode didn't have any choices, but because of the branches you could do separate playthroughs and see the consequences of our previous choices.

I'm just loving the story to be honest and really find some games are way over choiced (I just created that word ^_^) Anyway have a great time away DB :D

Choices will be fine when they make sense and will be impactful. In my experience with VNs more often than not the choices offered are blend and don't really matter in the end. Then I'd rather have a kinetic novel that is telling a good story and doesn't take it's player base for granted. I felt that whenever you added choices they mattered. When you were on the kinetic story line you made good storytelling. Anyway the best choice was for you to go on a holiday. Enjoy your trip and return home safely, refreshed and rejuvenated. :-D
