True... That and the false author would totally say that they are the same creature out of laziness.

Dragon of Rochester

Or to put it another way, this week I chose quantity over quality. Because if I did it how I normally do things I’d split this up into 3 parts and spend 10 or more hours editing each one. And it would take me three weeks.

Dragon of Rochester

Ah, I think I’m just going to consolidate them for this, for the symbolism.

That's why I asked if you just mix those 3 together (which is fine, many authors are doing that) or if you use them separately.

Dragon of Rochester

Ah, sorry about that. Again I wasn’t able to take this through the full editing process. If I have any passive sentences I tend to kill most of them during edits. This is a bit of a raw chapter because I just don’t have the spare 30 hours it would take me to edit this fully. 😅

Dragon of Rochester

I did this because I wanted to keep thing simple too. Adding a Vermillion bird to the mix would be adding another bird type ascendant beast has have very similar properties to the one I’ve already added. And this is just a short story so I didn’t want to make that decision here. Or you could just say that LS is just calling a Vermillion bird a Phoenix because he’s a kid who doesn’t know the difference yet.

Dragon of Rochester

So, I know that they are three different birds, technically. I struggled with whether to use Vermillion Bird in this chapter but I wanted these depictions to be more based off of ascendant beasts than traditional mythology (you’ll see authors doing this in Xianxia as well… or translators translating poorly. At this point idk which it is but I base things off the translation.)

Touch

The novel is good as always. Might I suggest the uses of passive sentences? It will definitely varied the novel😭 It’s like stab in my heart after so many times I read “I do…” “I have….” “She teach…”

Love the theory... no mythology crafting, but calling a kirin a unicorn... just no. Those two are quite different in every aspect.

So with what i understand, the fenghuang is equal to dragon in that they all have similar descriptions but different depictions. Its actually quite hilarious to note that oftentimes with chinese descriptions they attribute each part to a different animal, which is hilarious as it massively throws off the drawn depictions, that and technically all of their mythical creatures are chimeras. It should be noted that there is a variation on phoenixes on every continent similar to the variations on dragons, and that almost every major culture has a subsequent description. Though some are not named in an obvious way such as the jewish Leviathin, which is the jewish dragon. As such it would be a disservice to declare that fenqhuang is not a phoenix when speaking to a western individual, such as for instance how a kirin is an eastern unicorn (definitely prefer the Kirin name, its much shorter and cleaner). Also should be noted that a vermillion bird is more akin to a giant flame sparrow. Their not a depiction of a cultural totem but a depiction of one of the five main elements. Similar to how they will use a depiction of a bull or a boar for the earth element, and a rooster or a dog for the metal element.

Phoenix is from western Mythology. Fenghuang are usually called 'Eastern Phoenix'. And While the Vermillion Bird is the personification of the Fire Element, the Fenghuang is usually associated with the Sun, Luck, Prosperity, and the Empress. (While the Emperor is associated with the Dragon) Fenghuang are usually sun/fire Peacocks. But can also be depicted as more chimaera-like, made up of a bunch of body parts from different animals. The Vermillion Bird is very much straightforward an elemental Bird. In Xanxia, 'Phoenixes' often have elements of all three birds and it's difficult to differentiate. That's why I asked if there will be a difference between those three in this story or if we're going with the usual pick-an-mix approach. I mean, we have the 'immortal/rebirth' stuff with Lin, and we have the Empress/Emperor Fenghuang/Dragon stuff going on with their mirrored cultivation. Now we probably have an Azure Dragon/Vermillion Bird symbolicism in this very chapter. At least I understood it that way?

D

Not an expert, but arent Fenghuang / Vermillion Bird & Phoenix 3 different birds with shared similarities?

D

I am exhausted. Ah, thx for the chapter. Since you worked so hard, rest should be given. Take a 5min. power nap before you return to writing. ;-D

Hmm... so the dog is probably a Green Dragon? Considering it said 'collect YOUR egg', I'd assume the beast inside depends on your chosen room? Is a Green Dragon the same as an Azure Dragon in this context? I mean... You usually have Black Tortoise (Water), Vermillion Bird (Fire), White Tiger (Metal), and Azure Dragon (Wood). Are you differentiating between Fenghuang and Vermillion Bird in this story, or are you mixing them both together when you speak of Phoenixes?
