PMG Responds to the Games Industry Layoffs
🕑 Added 2024-07-02 13:08:13 +0000 UTCIt's long overdue that People Make Games talks about the layoffs that have now ripped through the games industry over the last couple of years.
So when I was asked to speak at a recent IWGB Game Workers meeting, it seemed like the perfect moment to do exactly that.
This video blurs the line between journalism and activism on our part, but after the last couple of years, I think there's a responsibility to do exactly that.
I suppose, in short... we're called People Make Games for a reason!

Just to add to what Chris has said, the people directly behind him who are fully visible throughout most of the video are all IWGB union officials who are very public-facing, so they're definitely fine with it. :)

PMG making my cry, again. I was forced retirement due to unexpected health issues at 35. Joining a union at 34 saved the rest of my life and protected my childrens' futures.

The people who attended the meeting took a group photo afterwards which was posted on social media. However, with anonymity in mind, we did spend quite a bit of time blurring the screen with the Zoom call on it, as I'm not sure everybody on the call would have felt equally comfortable with their names/faces being included. -Chris
