Update post will be delayed this month, my PC's are busted
🕑 Added 2021-06-29 06:55:54 +0000 UTCI've had, the worst luck this week on top of a not amazingly productive month.
Both my laptop and desktop are busted to the point I'll have to do a full reset on both of them.
The Laptop will be reset through warranty RMA, my desktop will be reset tonight.
My laptop, surface book 3, just spontaneously died a few days ago. Now I had already intended to RMA it due to some touch screen oddity, but now I absolutely have to. It's so dead, I can't even get anything on screen, there is nothing I can do. This doesn't seem like a common problem of this degree so it just is what it is.
Then over the last few days Netflix has been making my desktop PC do very weird things causing crashes and my screen blacking out. I bought a new HDMI with HDCP 2.2 to hope that would fix it, but thats still on the way. Then I decided I would update my graphics drivers, and BOOM blue screen.
After that I have not been able to get any means of recovery, any means of safe mode, USB recovery drive none owork. No matter what I do I get various errors mostly VGA errors on the mother board. I've concluded my only option is a full reinstall, but things are so fucked I'm not even 100% sure that will work.
This has turned a unproductive week, thanks to some factors, into a dead week.
Note, there is no data loss here, just my usual setup and configuration stuff, I'll have to reinstall and re-setup everything. But nothing beyond maybe a half hour of work was lost far as I know. I only really kept games and temp files on my C drive. As far as I know hardware is fine, but if the blue screen somehow fucked up my 3090 I will be a very sad boy.
So sorry for the delay, I'll update when things are back online and I can finish what I intended.

I think much of it was a very bad mishmash of configurations bios, hard drive, and os level

Unfortunately no I don't, I think the issue was a combination of factors. I realized I had a bunch of serious bios and hard-drive config issues. A lot of issue my pc used to have are gone after the full reinstall.

If you were getting weird graphics glitches before the bluescreen, I'd finger the GPU as the culprit rather than the driver. If you can borrow a spare GPU or have a motherboard with onboard output (any Intel board, no Ryzen boards except in the unlikely event you have an APU) you can rule that out easily.
If it is a driver upgrade that caused the blue screen, then if your motherboard has a video out, then it might also be worth trying unplugging your Graphics card and going through there to see if you can go through that way and if so, then proceeding to restore the graphics drivers for the 3090 back to the previous revision and then possibly uninstalling netflix, then reinstalling it

in my experience a lot of windows crashes can boil down to bad storage leading to a faulty install. That is unless youve done any overclocking to cause any system instability. Hope you get it all sorted soon though, its so shit to be without your PC.
