Even though Suga is few months younger than Jin, he has to talk formally to Jin. Same way RM/Hobi need to talk formally to Suga. Only with someone born in 93, suga can talk in informal way and vice versa which does make difference in bonding.

When the subtitles say 'friends' theyre translating the word 'chingu' which is an informal way of saying friends for people the same age as you (seniority usually means formal language is used) you can still be friends with pekple older or younger, its just a different word and differen language used. For example, Jungkook and Jimin are very close friends and Jungkook doesnt always use formal language with him, but they wouldn't be 'friends' in the 'chingu' sense
