The three realms Sylvia experienced have all had different social dynamics. In the Beryl Wilderness she was a higher class in Vallen amongst lower classes and slaves, The only threat was from a non local who ignored the norms while she snuck out. By the time she interacts with the rest of the realm she's being positioned as someone the baroness is grooming and preparing to reveal as her apprentice. In the Cloud Island Wilderness she's the top dog in the Gamers society, one of the strongest of the witches and gamers and her role with the system expansion plan gives her a position of respect from the strongest creatures on the plane. In both cases death temporary and is an escape from any real danger. On Tartarus she's presenting as barely above a nobody both socially and personal strength wise while keeping secret a level of talent while still weak enough to make her an enticing and easily snatched target by multiple factions. Her bigger yet secret makes her a different kind of target. She faces danger from multiple fronts. Easily manipulated, easily exploited, Coveted for a few reasons and hunted as a threat for other reasons. A death here with the forces involved can easily lead to capture. On Tartarus there are many who can afford the cost of breaking taboo's when targeting her. The threats she faces here are threats she'll face in other planes that only become greater as she increases in personal strength for a long time to come.

I can't wait until Sylvia's free of this cesspool. A vague anxiety grips me every time she steps foot in Tartarus. I don't know if this is exclusive to Netherwitch or a trait of all progression stories, where vast power gaps are the norm, as I rarely read that genre, but it's hard not to tense when you're a bug surrounded by giants. On the other hand, staying cooped up in the Lands Between (you won't get me to call it Emmy's uninspired name) is a bit boring. There's too much tension, and then there's no tension. In that sense, the Beryl Wilderness was a good balance.

I'd been wanting to write a: "It's not okay even if hot girls do it and here's why" scene. It seems I delivered.

Man, those Saphittes are making me genuinely angry. With such a large power differential, regardless of the fact that its mostly soft power its still power, there is not a doubt in my mind that they are little better then predators themselves. They just wear a different face then the mind controlling slavers. A prettier one sure, but they are no better.

There are a few odd ones out there (like Esmeralda's), but for the most part no. Apprentice structures are common. Clans often do provide some degree of organized instruction as well. But actual, structured, academies are by and large considered a 'weird mortal thing'. Long lives breed laziness.

Mr NerfGun

Does the Netherworld not have universities or academies?

Yomuashi

I see a simple solution. For the sake of all worlds. Sylvia must take Asmodeus’s rule for the world of course. 🤣
