What I love about Bender's character is that they're taking a sci-fi trope to the extreme. Stories like Bladerunner will often have the robot characters act more human than humans, in order to prompt questions about ourselves. But Bender isn't just a human-like robot, he's the most human-like robot. No human is as insecure, selfish, needy etc as Bender.
