Rewatching this MONTHS later lmao. It really is stunning to call out James Charles for being horny for "straight" men while associating with Jeffree Star, who has openly fetishized straight men since the beginning of his career. And for the record, I don't even think fetishizing straight men (or "straight" men) is some great evil - a lot of gay people crow up with crushes on their straight friends and that can be recontextualized into a kinky roleplay thing later in life. Especially for someone as androgynous/feminine as either James OR Jeffree, there's really that element of "straight men are attracted to me in private but won't be seen with me in public" (which many trans/nonbinary people experience as well). Idk just think it's interesting of Tati to have gone against James while still associating with Jeffree.

Sorry for the whole essay. I have changed my mind about Tati so many times. I really appreciated hearing your perspective on this, and it's interesting to see how it affected your lives. I just remember how PewDiePie was calling Tati a 'cunt' and 'bitch' on livestream when he was watching Tati’s apology video, for trying to ruin James' life, and then when James was accused of pedophilia...it was just crickets from PewDiePie. I also think there is still a lot of stuff that happened behind the scenes we just will never know about, no matter how much time has passed.

I’m a first time listener. I’ve read a lot of Kat Tenbarge’s NBC articles too, and was really happy she was in support of Amber Heard. I feel a little like that with Tati Westbrook. I remember making my own research video in retrospect about the ‘Bye Sister’ drama around the time that James Charles was accused of being a predator in early 2021. I had initially sided with James after ‘No More Lies’, but then I remembered Tati’s words in ‘Bye Sister’: “You are using your fame, your power, your money to play with people’s emotions. You’re threatening to ruin them, you’re threatening to embarrass them, and you’re doing that to have them behave sexually in your favor.” I found a video by James’ former high school friend, Benjamin Gotzmann, who literally titled his video, “My Experience Being Friends With James Charles Before The Fame (he hasn’t changed)”. Benjamin said that James was always sort of predatorial towards ‘straight guys’ in high school, and would catfish boys on the soccer team by dressing up as a girl and finding them online, and that the current allegations (although mostly proven false) didn’t surprise him. And when I revisited the Sam Cooke video, I checked the time stamps — they met on Tati’s Birthday which was Valentine’s Day, and for about a week, James kept pressuring Sam to fly him out to LA to see him. Sam didn’t want to use him for his money or fame and said ‘Hey I took some time to think about it, but in all honesty I'm pretty sure I'm straight...but I really enjoyed getting to know the person that you are", James had a meltdown in his texts; “No, we did not end on a good note, and you are not straight no matter how many times you tell yourself that”, and on twitter on the 22nd James ranted, “I officially give up. I’m sitting sobbing in my hotel room at 8am when I have to be on set in an hour. This is no one’s fault but my own because my dumb ass continues to go for the same type of insecure cute boys and it gets me hurt every. single. time. I fucking hate myself.” James had only known this guy for TWO WEEKS at the MOST. I think that’s why Sam kept going back and forth for months after that, because a lot of James text messages were EXTREMELY guilt-trippy, and whether James realized or not, he was being emotionally manipulative. Even when 'No More Lies' came out, those text messages really gave me a bad feeling in my gut, and I never fully trusted James after that. In a later 2020 Logan Paul podcast, James would also talk about trying to fly people out to LA and becoming fed up with them when they were too scared to. And that was the impression I got that Tati was trying to say — nevermind the ridiculousness over vitamins — James kept pressuring teenagers to do the same things HE was allowed to do from an early age, which was to take trains or planes halfway across the country to meet famous influencers and people he wanted to get to know. And he just didn't understand why people would not upend their lives to come see him. And that’s also why Tati called out James’ mom, saying, “hey, your sons need you”, because she couldn't get through to James and his parents were halfway across the country. Even in James’ 2021 apology video, ‘Taking Responsibility’, he acknowledged that Tati and her husband, James (even though he didn't name them at the time) had given him a private warning about his behavior but he didn’t listen. Tati also mentioned this in 'Bye Sister'. I still don’t think Tati should have gone public about this the way she did, and I think the peer pressure really got to her in her apology video. But I don’t *fully* believe this was ‘just about vitamins’.
