Did I come back to this video after less than a day because I have more thoughts? Of course I did. I kinda want to push back on this closing note that Tati Westbrook goes off the deep end of weird spirituality and pseudoscience as a result of the psychological damage she underwent from all of this. I'm sure that played a part, but lest we forget that before "Bye Sister," Tati launched a scammy vitamin company called Halo. She was already showing herself to dabble in the pseudoscientific and spiritually weird before she received all this hate. It reminds me of your Gwen Stefani video, where underneath all the layers of cultural appropriation she revealed herself to be just a little Catholic girl from Orange County. Which is to say I wonder if Tati Westbrook wouldn't have always ended up where she is now regardless of "Bye Sister" and its fallout. Do I have even more thoughts? Of course I do, but they are still a little half baked. In the meantime I'm very excited to dive into part 4 of the saga!

Such a great video once again! I can't believe how much of this section of the saga I've blocked out of my mind. Like I completely forgot about Shane Dawson's livestream reaction to Tati's video, but I had an immediate and visceral reaction when you brought it up. What a truly unhinged moment in time. But I will never forget Jeffree Star's 2020 apology video thumbnail. Truly a work of art.

I'm just absolutely stunned by how incredibly engaging this entire drama is!!! Why do I have a feeling that Ryan Murphy will eventually churn a limited series based on this? Feud season 3 maybe?

I don't want to put forth any diagnoses or conditions, but I do believe in pointing out odd behavior patterns. After the initial scandal and call out, there was undoubtably a lot of stress put upon Tati, and stress can trigger people in certain ways. Given the change in her behavior, the fast-track to psuedo-science and faith, the very surprising claims she is making surrounding AI and technology in her home, I think Tati is showing signs of paranoid delusions. That's not necessarily an awful thing, especially since she has access to resources and support. But especially at the end of the episode, hearing what Tati went through and the short clip of her, it sounds like she eventually hit a huge crisis point. I'm nervous about next episodes discussions honestly.

When Jeffery Star mentions Breonna Taylor and Black trans women being murder, he follows it up soon after by saying "All beauty matters" in regards to his upcoming releases. I do NOT think that was a coincidence, he absolutely is playing on Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter . He is very, very cheeky in his videos, and he likes to play the line where he just barely admits the truth in our faces.

Watching these has made me realize being 16 when "bye sister" dropped is one of the best and suddle flexes ever. It was the talk of my friend group (and the entire high school tbh). It is interesting to now listen to all of this years later and realize how gullible and sympathetic I was to all these sociopaths. Very excited for part 4 because I stopped following it after 2020.

this all happened when I was 15 and I DID immediately read the homophobic undertones in bye sister but bought shane dawson being poor hook line and sinker. I really thought big companies had exploited his internet fame until this point. I thought his house was just what suburban houses looked like in california. i wasnt a stan idgaf about shane before his documentary era (which i would argue started with his series on his dad and meeting his hater, although maybe that was just soft testing the formula for the exploitative influencer deepdives he ended up doing) and when I did start watching him he was reeeally riding on goodwill from being bisexual and being on a Tyler Oakley Auguest video one time.

When you read Shane's notes app post and you got to the humble pie line I SCREAMED. How could I have forgotten the humble pie 😭 What's insane to me too is that, iirc, Shane had a few months/maybe a year earlier made a generalized "apology" video about his past behavior re: his old racist youtube content, and that had kind of been the impetus of him pivoting to the documentary stuff maybe? Or it had been around the time his early docuseries style videos started? I remember that period so clearly because it was around the same time that Jenna Marbles had also made her apology/leaving YouTube video, and I was like... how is this guy still making content and everyone is forgiving him, but Jenna Marbles (who yes did make racist content, but to nowhere near the scale of Shane's) is dropping off the face of the earth?? Then later on when he had to make his notes app statement, and then even later than that, his video addressing the beastiality/pedophilic content of his that was being resurfaced, I remembered thinking that there was nooo way in hell he was ever going to bounce back from that. It was just so wild to me how many apology/addressing scandal videos Shane had made within like a 3-4 year timespan, how wildly different in tone they all were, and how differently they had all been recieved.
