Maybe this is cynical, but I feel Tati choosing to share her story about being sober was done when it was to specifically help re brand and re frame her in everyone’s minds. A way to welcome her back into the public and make everyone sort of forget what she actually did. I’m happy for her, it’s great. But literally everything these people do is curated and calculated. And all of these people have spent the entire time since this has happened trying to re write history. I’m glad yall did this series because it needs to be remembered so everyone who comes into their orbit has this information and knows exactly what they’re dealing with when they choose to support these people.

I finally got the chance to finish this series and it was so excellently done. Kat's insider knowledge was such a great edition to this conversation. One thing I took away from how Bye Sister is remembered today as an artifact as Trump's first term, it was one of the first big culturally conservative events that infiltrated into otherwise left-leaning spaces. Tati's homophobic rhetoric gave bad actors permission to perpetuate those homophobic ideas under the same guise that QAnon people do, and popularize it among a younger, socially liberal audience that was receptive to MeToo and LGBTQ rights and create this rift by turning those ideas on their heads. It's the same logic that put people who might even call themselves feminists on Johnny Depp's side. And the fact that people STILL think "Tati was right all along" is only more evidence of how much more bigoted conservative ideas have seeped back into "mainstream" culture. Not to say they fully ever left, but they have become re-normalized after the social changes that happened in the 2010s. Bye Sister was one of the first big examples of these reversal.

Great episode!! One thing to note about the Isaiah allegation that I found very odd and actually makes me question his narrative is that he initially states that their first point of contact was on Snapchat and then later pivots to saying they initially met on instagram. If I am remembering correctly his age was listed on either his instagram or TikTok and he really only made this pivot once people started questioning his side of the story. It’s a small detail that has MASSIVE implications because him having his age displayed on a social media account where the conversation didn’t take place, isn’t clear evidence to me that James knowingly interacted with him under the above pretence. You are both absolutely right in saying that the water got so muddy that no one knows what is real and what isn’t.

YESSSSS AT LONG LAST! Bye Sister Explained is one of my favorite genres and this series might be the best I've ever seen ❤️ I will say, though... I don't think this gamification of dunking on public figures (and watching sub counts go down, etc) was first done in the Bye Sister saga. IMO it's just an evolution of Gamergate and other early "cancellation" fiascos, but this was really when more of the mainstream got in on it. Which would make sense given the timing, since 2020 saw the last of the offline normals finally plunge into social media as a main source of entertainment and drama. Not sure if this makes sense! I'm just always fascinated when a new group of messy people throw themselves into internet mess. Especially during that time when everyone was going completely bonkers from pandemic stress.

Omg so much I wanna reply to, but first thank you for the satisfaction and best commentary on this possibly ever. I will sayI was not expecting EDB to be a part of this, but I have watched several trials with her gavel to gavel. I thought her coverage on this was really good, albeit super biased. Their business partner tried to claim he rightfully would be an owner in any business Tati would ever have in perpetuity, laying claim to her own name. And he was a best friend of her husband’s for like 20 years, which helps explain how in the end they settled it on their own over the phone without lawyers. From what I recall there were more like 4 Halo Beauty lawsuits because it became a complicated web of Halo beauty itself also as an entity suing its own board members. (I found the shade in the documents about him wanting to start a supplement for ED to be particularly snarky.) The brand new owner of Halo Beauty bought a lemon and got off to a bad start by blocking people including influencers in the comments when people were inquisitive.

Most people probably wouldn't become surrogates (edit: for strangers, not talking about surrogacy for friends/family) if they didn't need the money, so there is a point that capitalism is coercing them into putting their bodies through pregnancy and labor.
