A whole delegation from the UG had been waiting for us back at our hotel, ready to question us. I wanted to point out that they could just go get our story from the city’s emergency responders, but I had a feeling that would not go over well.
They had at least picked up Candice from Carl’s studio.
“So you can see them?” Heather asked.
“Yes,” I replied quickly.
“You’re sharing Crimson’s ability?” The president of the UG nodded along with me before turning to Heather. “Ken shares a number of abilities with his partners, one of which happens to be an incredible detection system that Crimson uses.”
Heather’s eyes flashed and she turned to the president of the UG. “You’re unsurprised by this use, so what do you have Crimson doing with it?” She must have realized the same thing as me.
“Crimson is currently ‘running into’ any team that’s level forty and above.” He made it sound less than a coincidence.
I almost asked why that particular level cutoff before it occurred to me and I spoke my thoughts aloud. “You don’t want anyone with threadspawn in them to come in contact with Star City, correct?”
The scarred bear of a man let out a heavy sigh. “It would be ill-advised for humanity to come off as infected by the Orcai or any of the other deeper races. Our brief interaction with the demons has already been contentious, as they see everything as a hierarchy and our current position puts us at the bottom.”
I swallowed audibly at that bit of news. “You met the demon delegation in Star City?”
“I have,” he said.
“And…?” I wanted more.
“For now I would still ask you to avoid the demons as best you can. You might be able to find your own place in the hierarchy, but I’m not sure. We, as a human race, are at a point where we can barely move the needle from being all classified as grunts.” He shook his head.
I remembered that Crimson always referred to this man as a coward, how non-confrontational he was probably had something to do with her opinion. I just couldn’t quite agree with being completely hands off.
“What’s happening to the adventurers if Crimson identifies any that are infected with threadspawn?” I asked, focusing on what was important at the moment.
The UG president grimaced. “They will be captured and taken to a facility.” His face hardened. “if in your travels you spot anyone infected by threadspawn, can I expect you to report it immediately?”
“If you’re putting them in some secret facility, I don’t know if I want to be a part of that operation,” I reflexively pushed back.
“You must understand, Ken, that right now everyone is trying to figure out how to identify the infected en masse. Even the Orcai aren’t confident in their identification on close inspection.” He shrugged. “Our best option is to capture those that Crimson identifies and run tests to find a better way to identify the infected. Not to mention, we believe there’s a chance we could bring the hosts back.”
“The hosts are still alive.” Heather nodded. “It isn’t like the worm has completely removed their brains.”
“No. In fact, from brain scans of the few we’ve been able to examine, we believe that the worms are somehow suppressing several areas of the brain. The person may well be there underneath it all. However, finding the solution won’t be easy and it won’t be painless.” He turned back to me pointedly. “Sacrifices must be made, otherwise our only solution at present is to kill all infected that we find. I’ve had sleepless nights myself since making this call, but it must be done.”
I made a face and didn’t meet his eyes. This was a situation where the ends might very well justify the means. Yet, it was hard to be asked to help send people off to be lab rats. “Is there anything else you need from us?” I asked, putting my hands on my knees like I was about to get up.
“No. That is all. Please enjoy the remainder of your press tour.” He gave a small smirk.
“We will,” I said, not understanding what was so amusing.
The UG had pulled us into one of the conference rooms just off the lobby, and I was more than happy to get out of there and head back to the room.
“The labs aren’t the worst thing,” Heather said, putting a hand on my shoulder to try and reassure me. “If for whatever reason I should get a worm inside of me, I would prefer a chance at being restored over complete oblivion.”
I frowned. “Yeah, I know. It makes sense, but in the meantime those people are going to suffer. They can recover from suffering.” I almost wanted to point out that revival existed, but I knew she wasn’t talking about that; she was talking about something far more permanent.
Before she could keep the conversation going, Bellaire practically wedged herself between me and the Harem Queen like she was staking her claim.
The older woman just assessed Bellaire and then turned back to Helen. “You’re going to miss your chance again,” Heather said, grabbing her daughter by the collar and began dragging her away.
“Come have a serious conversation. Don’t mind them.” Bellaire waved a hand dismissively. “That mother-daughter duo can go have all the fun they wish. You, on the other hand, need to get rest if you’re going to be effective on the rest of the tour at all.”
“We’re still doing it?” I asked, somewhat expecting a pause, a break or something.
“Of course.” Bellaire’s eyes went wide. “If anything, this has only made it all even more important. If we back out now, the Headmistress will throw an absolute fit. You need to show that this attack wasn’t even that big of a deal.”
“I’m pretty sure hundreds of people died,” I replied.
“And thousands die in car accidents every day. This was nothing more than a one-off adventuring event,” Bellaire said.
I couldn’t help but feel that her words were a little callous, even if I knew they were a pointed reminder of what I was expected to say, not what I was expected to feel.
Bellaire led me to the elevator before Des slipped in with us. As the doors closed, I got a hungry expression from the demonic mage and that served as a firm reminder of what happened the last time we rode in the elevator together.
“Does that mean we will practice tonight?” I asked, clearing my throat under the intensity of Des’s gaze.
“That would be ideal,” Bellaire said. “But I can also understand if you are tired and wish to save it for tomorrow. Though, it may cut into your training time.”
That statement made Des give an over-exaggerated gasp. “Not Ken’s training time!”
I rolled my head. “Training is important, Des.”
“Of course it is. Just look how much ass you kicked. And then imagine resting for a couple days and wondering just how much more ass you kick.” She chuckled and slid up to my side, pressing herself against me. “We can just skip one day of training, right?”
“Love you Des, but no. Not a chance.” I told her.
She pouted with puppy dog eyes and I looked away before she could convince me otherwise, which only made Des sigh in defeat. “You see what I’m dealing with, Bellaire? This is where I need your help in changing a very narrow public sentiment. A night of fun and a morning of rest can be the key to unlocking the next level of adventuring,” she argued more to me while talking to Bellaire.
“Perhaps the key is to exhaust him first and then ask for the time off. At least from where I stand,” Bellaire licked her lips. “Ken still looks rather energetic despite tonight’s activity.” The look I was getting from Bellaire was just as hungry as Des’s, if not more so.
“Yes, well, I am a little tired,” I said. “And in desperate need of a bath before we have any fun.” I said the last part pointedly to Des.
“Ooh, of course. Shower sex is good too.” Des grinned, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes as the elevator dinged to our floor.
The old couple who had been waiting must have heard Des’s words, because the woman looked aghast as she rolled her eyes. And the man shot me a quick grin before flattening it in time for his prudish wife to glance over and check his reaction, which must not have been good enough as she huffed and stormed into the elevator past us as we were forced to politely press ourselves to the side and avoid her.
“Prude,” Des called out as the doors closed, most certainly to get another reaction out of the woman.
“It’s inadvisable to damage your reputation over something like that,” Bellaire added, as we made the short walk down the hall and opened our hotel room.
“Screw polite. She wasn’t polite.” Des swung the door closed and was already stripping out of her outfit, leaving a trail of clothing on the way to the bathroom.
“Sorry about her,” I said to Bellaire.
“It’s fine. I’m here to serve you, even if that means picking up the broken fragments of your reputation.” Bellaire held me with a gaze. “Anything Ken.”
Damn I wanted to take her up on that. “Thank you Bellaire.” I managed even as I felt my pants straining as they tented.
“There are ways to show your appreciation.” She said the words like a promise of far greater things.
I practically fled the shower myself. I felt a little self-conscious with Bellaire in the room, yet at the same time she was clearly pushing herself to be around us. It would almost be discourteous to kick her out just to have fun with Des.
Or maybe a small part of me hoped she’d join.
The bathroom was already beginning to steam up as I stepped in and got an eyeful of a naked Des stepping under the spray.
I frowned. “It got hot that fast?”
Des held a ball of green fire in her hands as the water sprayed on it and instantly spouted up into steam. “No. But I’ll be damned if I let cold water get between me and a steamy shower.”
I chuckled, slipping out of my clothes and joining Des. I slipped up next to her, positioning myself under the spray and feeling my hard shell of matted hair softening up and dark muck to wash down the drain. I did my best to keep it off of Des.
“Oh right. Melee and they weren’t dungeon monsters. Let’s get you washed first.” She was already pumping handfuls of soap into her hand before slapping it down on top of my head and creating enough bubbles that overflowed, cascading down my face.
“You don’t use this much soap normally do you?” I asked, smiling at her.
"No. But when you’re covered in dwarf guts, you bet I’m going to lather you within an inch of your life." She smiled hard enough that her eyes pinched closed and spun me around to keep soaping me up, only for her breasts to push into my back and she slowly drew them in circles.
I chuckled at her antics and just enjoyed her pampering me, closing my eyes and letting the soap run down my body.
Des spun me back around and this time buried my face in her soft soapy cleavage as she gasped and scrubbed my face clean with them. "Hand please," she said.
I didn't think anything of her request as I lifted my hand, only for it to sink into her wet slit. Des sighed, "that's the stuff."

"You won't be diving the dungeon with us, and I will spend a lot of time in the dungeon.” I pressed.
Bellaire sickered. “That's not my place though. I may ask to join you on some farming activities from time to time. Your grandparents have the commitment in my contract as far as helping me gain levels, but there's nothing saying you can't take that responsibility from them. In fact, I would love to spend more time with you in your element. Though if I had to guess, you'll be spending more time with me in mine, or perhaps in me in mine.” She winked and then let go of my hand, as if to say she had done her part and the ball was in my court.
I grabbed Bellaire by the shoulders and spun her around until her hands were braced on the tile wall of the shower.

Good chapter. Happy for Bellaire. Yes it was quick, but she's been in the story for a long time, so I'm good with it. I think it would have been funnier/funner if when Des said, "give me your hand" she instead slid his finger inside of Bellaire first while his eyes were closed with soap. But good either way. Excited to see Ken meet the demons and what happens with the thread spawn.

I'd prefer for Bellaire to be more confident about what she wants, like the other girls are. Something like " I want to be the public face and pleasure slave of the incubus demon lord of Earth." I find her lack of precision... disturbing.
