Mermaids.

What kind of mermaids do we want?
There is an image for the idea in my head for each option, except traditional. If you want to see a traditional mermaid, just search mermaid on google.

eh i would call the race the mer instead of mermaids they aren't maids dammit they be monster of the deep lass XD and they don't look like complete humans if the optional is made right like different eyes, hair color and other smal things would be dope :P

Could there be different versions of mer people based on different fish. Like ones that are based on reef fish having a more colorful tail. while ones based on deep sea fish being dark in color but having bio-luminescence

Going to second this, but going to expound a bit. With the wild biodiversity you can find in the sea, it makes more sense that Mermaids would vary wildly. For example an angler-fish mermaid would be rad, but also that whale mermaid picture is too cool not to be in the story. Having them be different 'races' of the same species might be the way to go. You could get some interesting results from them naturally intermingling. Having one big one say "Oh yeah, my mom was a Whale-maid, my brothers won't stop calling me fat." could be interesting. Either way, I'm putting my vote down to a limited All option. Huge fan of the whale-maids by the way, not really a thing anywhere else as far as I'm aware.

Hmm. I do like that idea, but I already kinda did that with the rats.

Does it need to be mermaids and called Mermaids/Merpeople? Making them half whale/dolphin/seal would be more realistic. They still need air, so they still pop up to the surface if they are out of "magic". Making different factions because of different body halves. War and fights are performed close to the surface in the case of "magic" exposition. Maybe one of the species has already gone "extinct"(decided to stay in cold regions to avoid fights) because of the wars.
