Hi everyone,
For those interested in playing along with the forthcoming Guru Decoding find the relevant episode attached. Yes, it's Bari Weiss' podcast and she is someone that might feature in a future episode herself. Regardless, it is a recently recorded, extended interview that outlines his views quite well.
For a preview, Matt is already positioning himself as the nice one for this episode. Don't let him fool you!

And not everyone who isn’t autistic is high functioning. I have had colleagues who have needed more support than the supported people. Take your 1st year philosophising and stick it up your jacksey son. Or as my Glaswegian elders might have said, “away and work!”
Andy
Is your contention that having fewer autistic people in the future would not in fact be better? Not every autistic person is high functioning. I’m inclined to believe that he’s right. Why not remove that unnecessary suffering from future generations?

I work with autistic people too. He doesn’t understand the word or has some catholic definition that we don’t know about

Have to be careful when I make that criticism. (Chris)

At 39:42 minutes in the source material Jaron says that a better world would be a less autistic world. Have I misunderstood his intentions?Autistic people are in fact human and all the autistic people I know are wonderfully colourful, insightful, compassionate and positively divergent individuals.

This sentence: Today, a conversation with Jaron, from his home in California, about the dangers of groupthink, digital maoism, ideology sluts, censorship, capitalism, universal basic income, Facebook, robots, billionaires, wokeness and losing yourself in the ambiguity of the internet’s fake reality. Digital maoism? Ideology sluts? And of course wokeness.

Is this sentence, like headlines, written by Bari as a guide for discussion or has this jumble or ‘word salad’ come straight from Lanier? Maybe a poll? I’m betting on Bari.

Ohh that laugh is a bit grating!

I'm not listening to god-damn Bari Weiss. I'll assume you're being fair.

Looking forward to this one! I've been a fan of Lanier's work since first encountering him in The Social Dilemma. In particular, 'Who Owns the Future' (written around 10 years ago by this point) offers one of the first fleshed-out critiques of big data & the manipulative algorithms behind 'The Advertising Model', and is also a book that, ironically, acknowledges the veneration of Gurus & their manipulative techniques from within Silicon Valley circles (see 'the 6th Interlude' of the book). At the same time however, Lanier is also a dualist, which will no doubt be a focus of critique for Matt and Chris. Lanier has stated in another interview with Lex Friedman that he holds this view 'pragmatically' but hey, that still doesn't mean it's off limits for critique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx0G6DHMfXM (timestamp around 1.29.30 - 1.31.00 for talk about dualism and panpsychism) Will be interested to see what you guys can 'decode'!
