The Confluence of the Gurusphere
🕑 Added 2023-06-16 08:46:27 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
Some bonus content.
Matt and I discuss our thoughts relating to how often the gurus paths seem to overlap and what drives this week. Just this week you have crossovers between Jordan Peterson & James Lindsay, Jonathan Pageau & Jordan Hall, Lex Fridman & Matthew McConaughey, and RFK Jnr & Joe Rogan.
Some of these are ideological bedfellows but others are a bit more surprising. In any case, we thought we'd share with you guys some of our ideas about the topic.
Also, sorry but the Zoom setting messed up and did that camera shifting thing that I personally find annoying so only one of us is visible at a time... ugh... will be back to normal next time.

A topic heading like “The Confluence of the Gurusphere “ was perfect. I am a No on Chris’ Corner; perhaps too reminiscent of childhood timeouts 😏 A regular feature like this would be much appreciated though. I will suggest: CHAT DTG for consideration

The Conspirituality guys are doing excellent work covering him and Marianne Williamson. I don't live in the U.S. so the actual consequences won't affect me directly/personally, but if either of them gets elected it will be Suzan's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! I'm just getting over the depression from 2016! I don't know if I'd ever come out of the one that would result in that shitshow.

(Doh! Posted when I tried to put in a line break) --- You probably already know this but it depends on whether or not you have set your Zoom display to Gallery View or Speaker View when you press record. Gallery View is the good one. Ah! Just read the bolded instructions! :D

Looking forward to listening. As for this issue... "Also, sorry but the Zoom setting messed up and did that camera shifting thing that I personally find annoying so only one of us is visible at a time... ugh... will be back to normal next time."

I agree that taking on the rational, politically “Independent” label is desirable for these gurus because it translates as not being beholden to others for one’s views. Many Americans prize being individuals, so they don’t want to tag themselves as left or right. Being anti-authoritarian is more heroic and romantic.

Great fun convo, the sort of thing that couldn't make a proper episode but is actually kind of better. Also, "labbile"; Matt "short-vowel" Browne strikes again

RKF Jr. — Bobby Kennedy — coming out as a presidential candidate. A sideshow figure: Sideshow Bobby.

I started to listen to Lex and McConaughey but it was too ridiculous. I hope this doesn’t ruin True Detective for me. Damn. What we need is a Rust Cole AI bot that interviews McConaughey and calls him out on his pseudo profundities.

A good rant. I think greed is a motivator for some of these folks. I recall a young Canadian female right wing platformer saying it was all about the clicks. Clicks translate into dollars. We are in deep trouble as a species. By the way I never found JP Sears funny; his humor is mocking, not my cup of tea. When I heard it I thought this guy is an asshole, not he is an even bigger asshole and even less funny. I hope Sam Harris doesn't fall to the levels of Rubin etc.
