I listened to it on double speed. I could understand Chris and Matthew but Jamie sounded like a breathy word salad for the most part, garnished with occasionally recognisable catch phrases and some peppercorns of fuck.

Carmel L

Thanks Chris and Matt, for giving Jamie his right to reply. I really appreciated your discipline in the discussion and your ability to take up specific points. The importance of critique by peers in the field, where there is not only an agreed, evolving knowledge base, but also a robust means for deriving new data, was lost on Jamie, I think. What a person knows and how they know it is an exercise in humility. I don’t mean that in the virtuous sense, but that sometimes, we have to get out of our own ways’ to see new information. How we see ourselves affects how we see everything else. That you guys could hold enough space to critically look at what he was saying, manage your reactions to the speed and content of his delivery, and then speak assertively and coherently, was something I’ll learn from. Thanks again :)

Can this guy stop fucking swearing? I've got a hot ear now! Gonna have to get my fucking cooling mist. Wait, how many more times does he need to say fucking before you realise that he's just a casual down to earth guy who doesn't care about the bullshit? Also what the fuck is his accent? Maybe its the 1.25 speed messing with my first person phenomenological experience of the acoustics.

I assume they mean what Adderall/ stimulants do to most people, which is to amp them up (which IMO fits the bill for how Jamie sounds). I also have ADHD and take Adderall.

Kerri-Anne Edge Hill

Same. I couldn't stomach him.

Artemis Green

I have ADHD, and I take medication for it. Can you explain the Adderall quip to me?

Paul Bowman

Thankfully the remaining hour and half was a little less frenetic. Maybe the Adderall was wearing off or something. Having listened to the overall thing, I think the moment at 9:53 where he is outraged by Chris daring to suggest that Thiel, Musk and the rest of the PayPal mafia were maybe just flukey enough to be in the right place at the right time, he is actually spluttering, pausing, biting down his words when he says "Spoken... spoken like a... spoken like a.. bitter lefty.. postmodernist! Well done! Well done!" Kind of a mask slip moment for me. But like I say, he was more hyped at the start and seemed to gain a little more control over his composure as the interview went on (although it always felt a little precarious tbh)

Cillian McCotter

An aside, but love the username 🙂

Yea gods and little fishes. I'm only 34 minutes in and I'm exhausted already. It's like listening to someone coked up to their eyeballs or in the manic phase of bipolar disorder (I've spent time with bipolar friends during manic episodes and it's similarly exhausting and the mercurial sudden mood swings from bonhomie to aggression are also reminiscent)

Bob Gower

Thanks Doug. I encountered their stuff on the Cover Story podcast about abuse by therapists. As a cult survivor this hit very very close to home. As an org designer and lefty this critique of the "rich people will save us" narrative hits close to the heart. btw not sure if you'll remember but we met a couple times through our mutual Aaron D in NYC.

Douglas Rushkoff

Their best stuff is in these episodes. Very scary stuff that psychedelics gurus do to their acolytes: https://www.psymposia.com/

Amy McDonald

Gawd. Do you think he came on to prove he is less of a dick than we already thought? #fail.

Bob Gower

I’d love a link to the YouTube critique of the psychedelic therapy. I find that world full of hubris and ego so it’s hard to separate wheat

Bob Gower

Well done guys. I have no idea how you were so patient. I used to love JWs books but man that emperor is naked.

Rod Hodges

Well done smug to boot. Wow. That was one of the highest piles of BS I’ve ever heard

Rod Hodges

OMG. If there a were contest where you had to express the simplest idea with as many words as possible and you could even make up your own jargon this guy would be king. I hated his convoluted BS. Very interesting though. Wow,all to sell some “supplements” or “personal growth mountain climbing” or who knows what. Ugh! Sorry to be so negative but this was a pretty good hate listening session.

chuckboy

I don’t know how Matt and Chris were able to handle his word salad, served smug

Scott

“Are people like Jordan and Daniel well-positioned to evaluate the efficacy of hydroxychlorquine and other clinical research?” “Well they do have a nine figure nutritional supplement company…” 🙄

Emma

Argh. Got about 5 mins in and could not handle Mr Braggy McBrag.
