It was never very well embedded in US academic writing - at least in the social sciences. I think it is mostly understood economically (blue collar/ white collar workers).

I Never said he was struggling to be sustainable, but sustainability is surely, in part at least, about preparing for and riding out dips in revenue. Is the core of your issue that he is using anti-capitalist slogans to capitalise?

The comments are great! Apparently you have a misunderstanding of socialism!! It is fine to commodify as long as you use unionised workers and donate money to strike funds!!! You have the understanding of a 5 year old!!!! I really don't think American Universities have been infiltrated by the left enough. They really need to get their heads round class. You don’t have to rely on my assessment just read the slogans on the t shirts. If you think hyper-capitalist profiteering aligns with Hasan’s ideology, ok. We disagree. Also, if you think this is Hasan just struggling to stay sustainable… again I don’t know what to tell you. I think he would be getting along fine without the new merch line.

Ive heard Chris take quite a few times and still don’t buy it. Theres nothing wrong with Piker making his presence sustainable. He has critiques of capitalism but to my knowledge doesn’t identify as anti capitalist. He identifies as socialist but socialism isn’t the current prevailing economic model so what is he supposed to do? It’s so much easier to make money as a right wing grifter and he hasn’t drifted right. HP is competing with the likes of Tim Poole and the right wingers aren’t going to pack it all in if HP cant sustain is presence. I just don’t feel selling merch is the same as JP selling useless qualifications. No one listens to a poor figure.
