Supplementary Material 11: Alex Jones is at it again
🕑 Added 2024-07-27 08:06:19 +0000 UTCWe are a little behind the news cycle with this release, so our apologies for that. This was recorded after Trump's assassination attempt but before Biden announced he was stepping down. We will be back with the Gurusphere's insane reaction to that event next time. Here we consider:
Trump's leaked conversation with RFK Junior
A very special request from Matt
Tammy Peterson's admiration for Tommy Robinson
Alex Jones releasing NEW Sandy Hook conspiracy theories on InfoWars
Jonathan Pageau's new spin on Intelligent Design
The Fifth Column and selective application of criticism
Bari Weiss' Free Press visits the RNC
Moynihan's interview of Anna Khachiyan
Our now totally out-of-date political opinions on Biden

The DTG subreddit seems to hate Michael so I wonder if that influenced this choice.
Bobby Wayward
Yes and a sore brain
Lina Neild Robinson
Does anyone else get a sore throat when they listen to Alex Jones?

I have listened to enough of this podcast to trust the hosts characterization of what these people they are spotlighting have said. (Because they attach actual audio quotes to support their assessment) I’m glad to have reached this level of trust with them so that I may skip through the cringiest Alex Jones clips and get the cliff notes from the guys. Keep it up!
Hugh Crow
Bari Weiss and The Free Press have been overtly partisan since Trump overtook the primaries. Most of their editorial pieces now are straight party line.
Jonathan Southern
I only follow 2 patreon channels: dtg and conspirituality. Patreon's top recommendation for me? Red Scare 😅

Great episode! I find Alex Jones so disturbing : ( That was hard to listen to! Also totally agree with Matt that hearing current staffers talk is encouraging, and the distinction of their being ‘not weird’ was spot on! It’s like you know it when you se it, and I felt I knew just what he meant. Thanks for the work!
Monica B.
Yes you do!!! : )
Monica B.
I’m both dreading and sooo curious for their take! I’m a fan, and just don’t see him as a guru!
David Noble
Haha, libertarians are always good for a laugh.
Nina Davies
She doesn't mention it! She is pretty clear that she though that the last Tory government were awful - she never liked Boris Johnson and I suspect she quite likes Keir Starmer. She still reads the Daily Mail though but hasn't sent me cuttings from it for a few years now!
Christopher Kavanagh
Also true (for Moynihan 😉)!
Adam Sher
I think there is a similarity in your and his ability to rant for very long periods which are major pluses to your respective podcasts.
Christopher Kavanagh
Yeah, agreed. I still like the Fifth Column but find the blind spots/indulgence rather annoying.
Adam Sher
Or maybe this one https://chrt.fm/track/288D49/chrt.fm/track/384D27/pdst.fm/e/pscrb.fm/rss/p/sxm.simplecastaudio.com/853ccd10-364f-4b0b-831e-c2bed24d85e7/episodes/c210fa69-15ad-4fea-a17e-feab9286bffe/audio/128/default.mp3?aid=rss_feed&awCollectionId=853ccd10-364f-4b0b-831e-c2bed24d85e7&awEpisodeId=c210fa69-15ad-4fea-a17e-feab9286bffe&feed=RV1USAfC
Linda Sears
Has she regretted that position, Nina?
Adam Sher
Possibly this one. It's hard to tell because Kelly will start to rant on something that's not in the show notes https://chrt.fm/track/288D49/chrt.fm/track/384D27/pdst.fm/e/pscrb.fm/rss/p/sxm.simplecastaudio.com/853ccd10-364f-4b0b-831e-c2bed24d85e7/episodes/502ca599-b0a1-4498-b963-97e9171b7f0a/audio/128/default.mp3?aid=rss_feed&awCollectionId=853ccd10-364f-4b0b-831e-c2bed24d85e7&awEpisodeId=502ca599-b0a1-4498-b963-97e9171b7f0a&feed=RV1USAfC
Adam Sher
I think Moynhian would be a good guest on DtG and would handle the criticism with aplomb
Adam Sher
I grant a lot of that. He is similarly indulgent of Shadi when he's been on the Fifth so while there may be a bias in quantity of right v left people he extends it to both
Christopher Kavanagh
Yeah, I don't really buy that 1) because he expresses similar opinions on the pod, 2) he is not consistently indulgent, 3) he works for the Free Press and Megyn Kelly for a reason, 4) the DeSantis event... I like Moynihan but he's not scrupulous when it comes to applying criticism. He treats Anna with kid gloves that he would not many other people.
Adam Sher
Moynihan talks to Batya a bit, and she comes on the pod. It's clear they don't agree with basically anything she advocates but The Fifth gents do place very high value on civility.
Adam Sher
Moynihan said on many occasions he let's people speak and makes his views clear on the pod where he otherwise talks almost uninterrupted for 2 hours. I grant that this approach can give the impression that the guest speaker's views are more acceptable or thought through than they otherwise would be. In addition, it requires the listener to be very familiar with MM's content in order to get a sense for why he's interviewing a person. I felt the Ana portion wasn't that significant and the other people he interviewed provided more substance to analyze.

https://catholicherald.co.uk/interview-soon-to-be-catholic-tammy-peterson-on-marriage-religion-and-the-power-of-femininist Not sure if people have come across this article. Interesting to see how immersed the alt right is with extreme religious groups. Even konstatin gets a mention if you search for articles for jordan Peterstone in the heralds article search engine.
Ema Corro
I was surprised when they said that... Realised I follow three of his podcasts (so maybe he is a bit of a guru), but always saw the cohosts as slightly more charismatic.
Nina Davies
My Mum is in her 80s so can remember a time pre-NHS so is completely on board with vaccines and anything else doctors suggest she do! However, she voted Brexit because ..... something about the French and fish and something about life being better when we pickled our own onions and made our own jam during the war.
john statham
I much prefer these compilation episodes as I find the subjects too insufferable on the ‘depth’ issues. I was not disappointed in the Moynihan criticism and hope that he hears it. Not nearly enough Andrew Gold though. He’s gone full in on anti- Gender spite, 3 years too late.
Will
Say what you will about what he does with it, but I would say that Jordan is obviously an intelligent guy. Tammy comes across as an absolute airhead and I'd suspect Jordan prefers it that way.
Gavin Ryan
These gurus… so smart at being so stupid
Griffia
It was about a year ago, Megyn Kelly was going on about something in the news of someone cross dressing at work and all 3 shut her down pretty quickly. They seem to have a thing at this point where they talk about what the agree on and there's a mutual tempering of views. I will give it too them that they do offer a more independent libertarian tempered view to her audience. And her hard core audience doesn't really like them if you read the YouTube comments. Moynihan doesn't understand millennials worth anything and maybe only knows Anna through listening to blocked and reported and Jesse Signal making quips about enjoying red scare
Christopher Kavanagh
Not exactly. Much smarter than Konstantin and co. More ‘Classical Libertarian’ journalists. They can do good work e.g. see them debate with Coleman on RFK Jnr.
Emma
Which is probably why I ended up here!
Emma
I know right. Most of my friends are trying to be as different from their parents as humanly possible! We compete w each other to tell the maddest stories about our parents and other older family members. I often win because during the pandemic my family became hard core anti vaxxers! 😔
Emma
Bahaha
Emma
Almost self aware!
David Noble
I've never heard of the Fifth Column, but they seem like standard enlightened centrists.
Christopher Kavanagh
When? Genuinely would like to see!
Julie
“Go in peace to love and serve the Lord..” lmfao. Simply the best!
Griffia
I will say 5th collumn went hard on Megan when it came to transgenderism and called her out on her bs
Ben Godek
I know Freud isn’t exactly in style these days in the field of psychology, but Tammy Peterson’s “I like political figures who remind me of my combative father” statement has me reconsidering.
Ben Godek
You might say Chris wouldn’t touch Matt’s pole metaphor with a ten foot pole.
Jenson
It's amazing how much Peterson's wife sounds just like a female version of him
Dada de Broglie
Thanks, Professor Matt, for bringing some of that Australian sunshine to the sign out. A little positivity would be sooo refreshing right now. It takes real bravery to stand up in front of a large group of people and say “you know what? I think this thing is good.” 🌞😎✌️🦘🌊🏄🏄♀️🏄♂️
Tim Tripp
This was so tiresome. A log cabin in the woods is really appealing to me at the moment.
john statham
I am liking the criticism of Moynihan, without having heard it, because I’ve found the 5th Column a bit smug of late.
Linda Sears
Yes, it was telling when Peterson said to her “you like disagreeable men.”
Kelley
You leave Michael Hobbes out of this! That man is a treasure!
Linda Sears
It’s interesting to learn that Alex Jones’s mom was behind his choice to bring back Sandy Hook. I was going to blame Brand’s praying session for rejuvenating him.
Zelda Hershy
Also, it's really sad to see how much the gap between Brett and Alex Jones has really closed...or maybe it was never really there? Who nose 🤥
Zelda Hershy
Great observation about the family influence factor. Honestly reminds me of my own family of origin. Dad doesnt say much about politics, says it doesnt matter because "god is in control". But what's that, mom's in the kitchen listening to rush limbaugh and getting worked up about immigration and welfare queens - turns out they've been right wingers in the bedroom all along ....
Lillie
🙋♀️ you have creatives!
Emma
Not a surprise that JP's wife has bad taste in men!
Chris Wishy
Alex really should count himself lucky none of the Sandyhook parents has come after him after all his hideously grotesque behaviour! Outside doing actual violence, it doesn’t get much worse! Also listen to fifth column sometimes. Foerster is generally really good. Mohniyan defintely gets annoying though. Especially with his blinkered Gaza takes. Really detracts from the show none are making any of the points Jessie Singleton made in the clip Chris played when they discuss Gaza…. Peaked in on a couple of Mohniyans podcasts on Bari Weiss’s show - they are almost unlistenable with the guests he has on! Really bad content…. I think I might be getting Chris’s bad habits of listening to things I know will likely be frustrating!! 😬😆🤦♂️
Nina Davies
Well, that was all dreadful. I used to like The Fifth Column but I find that Moynihan in particular loves the sound of his own voice too much and hence doesn't have time to think about what is coming out of his mouth. Ditto all of these people. Also, why is it that I know hardly anyone who holds the same political views as their parents? And here you have found a two great conspiratorial dynasties?
Gavin Boyter
I think Moynihan has a soft spot for a well-turned ankle, which may explain his going gentle on Megyn Kelly and Anna from Red Scare. He rarely tears into the ladies.
Níall Faughnan
Alex Jones is an awful piece of shit
HustleTron9000
Thank you!
Ymirsdreams
This will be my reward for getting my reading done, thank you! :)
Shane Partington
I was hoping you guys were going to cover the Alex Jones stuff. Heard Dan and Jordan’s reaction. Listening now
