Oooh cool, having listened to Klein's doppelganger book I'm looking forward to her Right of Reply already - do try and get her on!
Robert Andrews
Looking forward to these. Are you doing the Destiny / Shapiro debate for the decoding?
Riku
Also if we *have* to do more Sam Harris, it would be cool to have another guest to bridge the gap in philosophical views. I think Tamler from VBW would be a good shout not just due to profession and work with moral philosophy, but also since he has a section on the Waking Up app discussing more introspective things.
Riku
Nice to see a mix of decodings. Dreading listening to the Hasan one after looking him up and spending some time in hell.

I'd rather see some criticism of him rather than having him presented as some fount of wisdom, given that he's an actual socialist and his foreign policy takes are terrible. I would hope Chris and Matt wouldn't let the fact that are able to get along with him well interpersonally get in the way of criticising his terrible opinions (what with the content of people's opinions mattering more than the ability to have a pleasant conversation with them and all, as Chris rightly points out).

You guyyyyys. I step away from patreon for 5 days and come back to find I've missed your ryokan love in sessions. Anyway, I would love to hear your takes on Stephen Porges of polyvagal theory fame and Gabor Mate of everything-is-childhood-trauma fame. They actually had their own love in, so you could do a double decoding (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bisa3dYf7U).
Christopher Kavanagh
Yeah want to do him!
Ymirsdreams
I am looking forward to it :) My request would be to have Liam Kofi Bright on again. I'd love to hear him talk more on Logical Positivism, and maybe his take on Critical Race Theory -- particularly regarding what seemed to be a kind of moral panic around it in the US between 2021 and 2024.
Linda Sears
Looks like there is a good mix of the more and the less guruesque to provide the content we most enjoy. Thanks!
Allan Malcolm McPherson
She was everywhere when I was in University in the 90s. I have to say that had me pretty checked out on her at the time. But I really enjoyed Doppleganger too. I really appreciated the self reflection.
Roland Weber
Have you considered Iain McGilchrist for a decoding? He seems like a reasonable person to me, but he's shilling his expensive book that took him 10 years to write. And he's not afraid to converse with DTG subjects to promote it. I've seen him on YT with Jordan Peterson (multiple times), Jonathan Pageau, John Vervaecke. Could be a nice break for you, when you're exhausted from the really bad folks again
Roland Weber
Sean Carroll and Yuval Noah Harrari are the only ones from whom I consumed non-DTG content. So I'm looking forward to see whether your impressions align with mine :-)
Christopher Kavanagh
Thinking about it.

Hasan is a lunatic. A far-left demagogue propagandist every bit as bad as the the worst of the far-right gurus you have covered. Will the decoding episode be based on the fawning interview he recently did with the Houthi pirate?
SHOUNAK SARKAR
Awesome looking forward to it, particularly the decodings of Naomi Klein, Destiny and Yuval Harari. Also I assume Sam Harris has agreed to come on a 2nd time, going by the list. Boy oh boy, that will be tiresome listening to Harris whining about everything and his fanboys on the subreddit running amok for the next month haha. Hope you guys put some actual criticisms forward and prevent him from going on extended monologues about how bad faith and woke everyone is, how nobody understands him, how he is the perfect rationalist blah blah. Apart from that, it looks good!
Christopher Kavanagh
All DONE!

Podcast directly from the Onsen when?

Don't destroy my impression of Naomi Klein! I got a bit bored reading This Changes Everything. But Doppelgänger was one of my favourite books last year. I kinda had the sense she was a bit of an anti-guru after that book.
Christopher Kavanagh
It should do. We will tidy all that stuff up this year!
Thom Hehemann
This all sounds very good and am excited. I was just wondering if the google doc with recommendations still get used, as I found it again few days ago and added some names.
Dave Lavelle
Perfect. No notes.
